Thanks for replying, I’m about to do my first extraction using Cybs max ion tek and I don’t want to get anything wrong.. will the carbonation not make a difference then? Or will I need to do a heptane wash when I have the crystals?Yes.
Make sure to wear protective gloves and glasses when working with such strong chemicals such as NaOH and Na-carbonate.
Always add lye pellets to water and not vice-versa.
I'm not sure what you mean with carbonation. Can you elaborate? Thanks for replying, I’m about to do my first extraction using Cybs max ion tek and I don’t want to get anything wrong.. will the carbonation not make a difference then? Or will I need to do a heptane wash when I have the crystals?
Sorry I meant will the sodium carbonate not make a difference? Here’s a link to the actual product I’ll be using, will this be ok? Sodium Hydroxide Pellets 97.0 – 100.5% ACSI'm not sure what you mean with carbonation. Can you elaborate?
Usually no recrystalizations are needed, if you do the steps leading to freeze precipitation well enough.

Lab grade material will have the purity listed as a range. Notice the upper value of 100.5%(!) - I wonder why you're not asking whether this extra half-percent of magic hyperspace lye will damage your spice or somethingSodium carbonate forms spontaneously from sodium hydroxide on contact with carbon dioxide in the air. The manufacturer is being uncharacteristically honest compared to the claims for, say, Red Devil lye where '100% pure' is frankly impossible.

Haha I get you bro thanks for the info, appreciate itLab grade material will have the purity listed as a range. Notice the upper value of 100.5%(!) - I wonder why you're not asking whether this extra half-percent of magic hyperspace lye will damage your spice or something
You cannot use or store sodium hydroxide and not have it develop a small percentage content of carbonate without using a controlled atmosphere, which in this instance would be massive overkill.
Does what? Sodium carbonate? You'll have to be more specific about which post you're replying to.Does it produce a purer crystal in the end than regular lye?
