STB Extraction Lye

I am planing on doing a STB extraction and was wondering about residual lye in the final product. I have read some posts that say lye makes the smoke harsh but another post says lye combusts at a much higher temperature than DMT so you don't inhale it with the smoke. I was wondering if anyone could clarify this for me.
