Success at last!!!

Hi Everyone,
I finally got a better result!!! From 50g Acacia Acuminata root bark (AARB), I managed to get 500mg.
Below is my process; please advise me if you know of anything that I could have done to increase my yield.

50g ACRB 200ml water + 60ml acetic acid
Pressure cooker on high pressure for 2 hours
Repeat x 3. The liquid was still quite dark on the third pull. I wonder if I should have done more.

I accidentally added the fuel at this point, but I'm lucky it still worked.
I added 100ml xylene.

Then I added
80g sodium hydroxide (NaOH) + 200ml water (Mixed this the night before so it was cool)
40g sodium chloride (NaCl) + 200ml water (Heated to saturate)

I swirled the container about six times in an hour.
Then pulled the fuel and put it in a bowl with a fan on it to evaporate overnight.
I did this again with another 100ml xylene, leaving it evaporating with a fan.

In the morning, I added 50ml heptane and heated the bowl in warm water to melt the goo.
Then, put in the freezer overnight.
In the morning, I could see this was my best yield yet. Later, when I dried it out, it worked out at 500mg.
I was stoked with the results, as my previous attempts were about 170mg, but I guess they could be better.

Any tips will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

That sounds and looks awesome! SWIM is about to try xylene on aarb then philos next.
I'm a little worried about how bad this new solvent smells. And how to utilise it to its maximum effect. Just wondering if you would advise waiting/trying to source heptane for recrystallisation or simply evap the xylene.

I didn’t think it smelt that bad, though I did do it in my garage. I’m a total noob at this but I imagine naphtha or Shellite would work too as you’ve already got it all out you are just recrystallising. The xylene evap gives a goo and had some bumpy crystals but mainly goo. I was super surprised when I got so many crystals the next day.

Nice job 😉

I have a habit of turning the little glass containers that I keep it in, I find it oddly satisfying the way it tumbles, I find it quite relaxing. It reminds me of moon sand, actually not a bad other name as it does send us to a whole other planet 🚀

Decent yield. Out of curiosity did you harvest the rootbark or was it farmed? Phyllodes are more than good enough with acuminata and can have up to 1%.. if wildharvesting I would recommend just taking phyllodes/twig. Or a fallen branch.

Harvest of rootbark will kill Australian acacias.

Glad you got a good result though.

Thanks! Yes, there is certainly something nice about the whole process of making it, and in the end, not knowing what you will get feels like magic stuff, which I guess it is ✨.

Thanks! I bought it online. They say it's locally grown and sustainably harvested, but they also sell phyllodes (Narrow species). For a little more $, I can get twice the weight, 500g vs 250g. Even if it provides half the yield amount, it's a win; I'll definitely try this next time. I don't want to kill the trees if I don't need to, and I had no idea I could get almost similar yields from them.

Yeah acuminata phyllodes are very good yielding! Extract is very clean as well.

I'm experiencing quite alot of oil, could the reason be the locally harvested phyllodes that's being collected are too fresh? I've been reading alot that acacia species has alot of goo and first few batches from purchased powered resulted in more gooey but still some runny oil. I'm thinking I need some sort of de-fat step or long cook time like OP.

I've heard of people getting better results with acuminata phyllodes with extended heat. It’s not necessarily that it has a lot of goo.. I suspect it’s maybe a polymer thing - because the extract’s potency corresponds to that of DMT crystal. May depend on form too.. even what people consider narrow phyllode variety is widespread and taxanomically variable.. and there seems to be intermediaries between the broad and narrow phyllode forms. The true narrow phllode variety as far as I can tell has more terete needles and no more than 3mm wide with fairly sparse flowers.

Ha!! I do the *exact* same thing. I use little inch long glass vials (I fill each with .75 g). I like the way it smells so I give it a whiff every now and then but mostly I need like to turn them and watch the little crystals roll around. Looks like how I like to imagine moon dust!
