Suggestions for Pokey's Ears and Brain

Migrated topic.

Pokey

Rising Star
The first time I heard any trance/psytrance was after someone here on the Nexus was recommending Shpongle. I have been listening to Shpongle ALOT since that day and was wondering about other music that is similar. Most of the stuff I've found that is supposed to be similar has a much faster beat. I checked out Hallucinogen, Infected Mushroom, etc.. and haven't found anything that really hit that groove for me like Shpongle. I was lucky to have four albums (Ineffable mysteries came out about a month into my Shpongle binge) to explore and enjoy, but now I need something new.....

Can anyone help?

Pokey the Hopeful:)

Hi Pokey,

This musical habitat you are just starting to explore is one I have inhabited for some years now...

For a Shpongilicious sound, I would recommend you check out:

Groups:

Ott
Androcell
Entheogenic
Shulman
Celtic Cross - Hicksville
Liquid Stranger
Younger Brother
Gaudi
Tripswitch
Phutureprimitive
Carbon Based Lifeforms
Peaking Goddess Collective
Flooting Grooves
Ozric Tentacles

Compilations:

Eclipise
Bioluminescence
Butterfly Dawn
Moonshadow Beats
Bliminal
The Mystery of the Yeti
Unity Dub's Voyage into Paradise
Mana Medicine

Some of these are slightly more Shpongly than others, but they are worth checking out...and there is much more out there 8)

here is where i may be able to help.. go to pandora.com enter shpongle and let the music genome project find similar music for you.

LOVE pandora music. Free, Good, Perfect almost everytime

pandora.com sounds brilliant - doesn't work outside the US though
last.fm has an option to listen to "shpongle radio" (or any other artist you like) and that will play tracks that have been tagged as similar. It works pretty well. It does throw a few odd ones in there at times, and you can't search through a track or listen to one you like on repeat, but it's free and there is a huge amount of music!

wow.. thats lame. last.fm is good, i think pandora is much better, sorry you're unable to enjoy it :( oh well being in london, you have better music available to you anyways i feel! seems alot of what i like originates from europe and other nearby areas. (muse is a current fav of mine depending on mood)
