SWIM?

This may be a silly question but where did the term "SWIM" come from? i'd like to know the etymology of this euphemism...
 
It stands for Someone Who Isn't Me, although I have always found it ironic that it could just as easily stand for Someone Who Is Me!! For my thoughts on its employment, check out my signature below. Insofar as origins, I can only speculate that someone somewhere with no wit on a forum like this decided that if everyone used the same acronymic moniker of denial, that they would somehow create a huge safety net for all who choose to discuss less than legal topics in an open, public, internet space. FOOLS!!:) they self-manufactured a target!! I am someone who is definitely me, and no one else, unless I adopt the philosophy of "ALL IS ONE", in which case no one needs to hide, for hiding from oneself is the most futile and destructive of behaviours...

LOL! great explanation! I too am definitely me, but now i see why one would employ "SWIM."

i find it ironic though. i don't know how to swim (as in... the thing you do in water to stay afloat and move around).
 
Yes the amazing "SWIM". The denier of all liability... lol I would swim a lot when I first joined. Now it seems a bit pointless. But hey whatever makes people feel safe. I can't stand the "last night I dreamed" or "my dog told me"
 
Last night I dreamed my dog told me that my uncle's monkey's cousin's best monkeymate suggested with no clear purpose or affirmation that I SWIM into a cloud of DMT. SWIM complied. I clearly did not.

swim is simply too lazy to write swim each time. i would forget at some point.

To bring this thread back to its SERIOUS nature, hmmhmm, here is what a wikipedia list has to say:

* Semantic Wiki Information Management, a subcommittee of the Semantic Interoperability Community of Practice (SICoP)
* System Wide Information Management, a technology to help provide data sharing of Air Traffic Management system information
* Surface Water Improvement and Management Program, a Florida state program to improve water quality.
* Someone Who Isn't Me, on internet forums.

There is no entry for the latter and hence no wiki-cred, so i must assume that most employers of the term SWIM are claiming to either be Semantic Wiki Information Management, System Wide Information Management or Surface Water Improvement and Management Programs.

Who knew that so many people involved in legally questionable conversations would also have interests as far ranging as semantics, air traffic management and surface water? it really is a wonderful world filled with wonderful people.:)

This is tooo funny! I always wondered why all the SWIMs out there thought it was any safer using that cover. If your being watched on these forums of anyother don't you think the gov't could figure this out? Are they really gonna see that & say "Huh, well I thought this guy was making illegal drugs, but he says its someone who isn't him"?!:lol:

p.s. jbark you're a very well-spoken canine. Have you thought of joining the circus? "STEP RIGHT UP AND SEE THE DOG THAT CAN TRAVEL THROUGH TIME AND SPACE USING ONLY A PIPE! OH YEAH AND HE CAN TALK TO!
