SWIM's first recrystallization!

So a good while ago, SWIM did a DMT extraction and posted it in this subforum ( SWIM's first DMT extraction using whatchamacallit's tek! - FAQ - All your basic questions and answers - Welcome to the DMT-Nexus ). Recently, he finally got around to doing a recrystallization using 1 gram of DMT obtained from that extraction.

SWIM used this recrystallization technique in order to obtain his results: Glass Shard Re-Crystallization Pictorial - FAQ - All your basic questions and answers - Welcome to the DMT-Nexus

The technique was not followed exactly due to certain circumstances, which were:

1) SWIM did not have aluminum foil at the time, so he used cling wrap instead.
2) SWIM mixed the hot solvent and his yellow-ish DMT by using a small knife and stirred for several minutes (instead of using the eyedropper to mix, as suggested)
3) Once all of SWIMs DMT redissolved into the hot solvent and layers allowed to separate, SWIM separated the dissolved DMT from the oil layer by painstakingly sucking up all of the DMT
layer by using the eyedropper. SWIM did this because when he tried to use the recommended method (sucking up the oils and leaving the solvent layer), it was VERY messy and did not work well at all. The oils were very thick and tended to disperse upon even light suction from the eyedropper.

SWIM opted to allowed the solvent with the redissolved DMT to evaporate at room temperature out of a shot glass for several days. SWIM had time, so chose not to freeze precipitate.

Initial amount of solvent:

After ~1.5 days of evaporation:

After 3 days of evaporation:

After approximately 3 days, half of the volume of the shotglass used to house the redissolved DMT solvent had evaporated, with signs of brilliant crystal formations. However, at this point SWIM was in the middle of moving, and unfortunately the remaining half of the solvent was spilled and lost during the move. SWIM carefully obtained the crystals from the shotglass and sighed appreciatively at the results:

SWIM has no doubts that the yield would have been MUCH higher (~0.25g) had not half of the solvent been lost. He plans to do another recrystallization soon :)
