Migrated topic.

Rising Star
This isn't new, but I just came across it again and felt like sharing it.

Paul Stamets does a TED TALK on mushrooms and talks about how we can use them to solve some of the biggest challenges our world is currently facing.

[YOUTUBE]

Paul has devised some ingenious means of using fungi for the benefits of humankind.

The Pleurotus ostreatus mushroom which can clean oil spills, the "hideous gomphidius" which can clean up radioactive sites, his work with Psilocybe Azurescens, and so on...

It's amazing.

Paul created these long cylinders containing Pleurotus ostreatus mycelium which could be thrown into salt water to clean oil spills. Paul was told it wouldn't work, that the Pleurotus ostreatus mycellium could not tolerate the salt water, and Paul said "how do you know?, have you tried it?"...sure enough Paul was right.

An innovative thinker. The world needs more people like Paul.
