Thank you my good sir.

You can join the Peyoteway.org church (Visit their site, go to the FAQs and follow the instructions)

Or...

Just print out that paper, sign it, put it away in a safe place... and well that pretty much makes you a member of my church!

One day I'll have some land where we will have a farm, grow entheogens and hold services and retreats.

So everybody declare their entheogenic religion! And join up!!!

Join both the Peyote Way church AND my temple/church of entheogenic religion!

This has already been done, essentially, by John Mann (known more commonly by his pseudonym Adam Gottlieb) who founded the Church of the Tree of Life.

The difficulty with this idea is that it won't actually provide any legal protection (in the USA), based on the supreme court ruling regarding União do Vegetal (UDV). There are several criteria necessary to legitimize the use of entheogens. First, the religion must be a recognized religion (which is pretty arbitrary, and seems to mostly be a matter of having a lot of members and having been around for many years). Second, the controlled substances being used as sacramens have to have a proven record of safety; this exists for ayahuasca (within the context of the south american branches of the ayahuasca churches), but would be mroe difficult to substantiate for our favored entheogens. Third, there must be very little risk of the sacraments being diverted outside of the church; this is why rastafarians have been unsuccessful claiming a religious defense for the use of cannabis (the US government considers it a high diversion risk, since people like to smoke cannabis recreationally)... that would certainly present a difficulty for coca and psilocybin mushrooms as well. The last point (which the court had not finalized their ruling on when I last checked) is that the church might be required to register with the DEA as a certified handler of the substances, and be subject to the same rules and regulations in terms of storage, recordkeeping, etc. that any certified labratory is held to.

I'm really glad you posted that and I'm not really trying to say "We declare this and it's now legal"... I'm more saying we should declare this BECAUSE it should be legal.

I would not argue for the legal use of coca or any botanicals that would be better considered an psychoactive rather than entheogen, there would be a list of supported botanicals for entheogenic use and those would be the only ones the church would advocate by name, BUT we would also advocate the use of ALL types of plants for healing... I know that's talking out both sides of my mouth, but ya gotta be screwy when you play those games. I dont actually plan for anybody to ever get caught doing this, lol.

One would probably think that there are roughly 2 types of people who take what the mainstream calls "drugs"

1) those who just wanna get high and get fucked. These are the people who will go after all sorts of stimulants, weed for the sake of it and low doses of lsd or mushrooms. If they ever get too much of lsd or mushies they will simply consider that they got "too much fuuuucked", and "shite, that was horrible". These people just project the standard consumerist mentality. Gimme drugs, I give you money and then evaluate if I got enough bang for my money.

2) The other type of people are on the antipole and consider "drugs" as useful and powerful tools. They tend to "produce" the drugs they consume; whether it is some fungus, or some cactus, or some extracted and purified substance, or even weed. They tend to use "drugs" wisely, approach them safely and tend to ascribe a sacramental quality to them.

EXACTLY! This is why I want botanicals legal but extracted and prepared drugs illegal, if you know how to grow it and prepare you can do that safely in your own home, but the sale of prepared drugs would be illegal.

yeah.. selling stuff is so stupid.. i never do it.. enlightenment is given for free to good friends or persons who i think might need help of the other.

In many (western) western countries, ayahuasca is legal and it's use falls under religious freedom. I also believe there is a church in NY that uses DPT as a sacrament, legally.
I think that in many counries there actually is a chance of succeeding (but the US and france are notorious narco-paranoïd) but, then you would have to narrow the list of entheogens down. You cannot just use any substance and say; "yo, it's a religious thing man". certainly for coca and opiates this is not very credible.
Split-ups of a native-american chrurch, using peyote, psilo's or ayahuasca áre credible, though.
I would say that for many, if not the majority of people on this forum, the use of spice is part of a philosophical and maybe religious attitude. Often is spoken about 'hyperspace' and 'elfs'. Opinions vary on whether they are PHYSICLY real, but at least they're an essential part in most people's system of belief, here. I would say that the principle of religious freedom must certainly aply as well to any philosophical system, whether the philosophical system has religious traits or not. For , for instance budhism, it is both arguable that it is a religious as well as a non-religious philosophy. The lines are not THAT clear. This would hold up in court in almost any western country, although in the US i figure that it matters what state you live in.(there are also countries unfortunately, where you would even be sentenced, just mentioning the very idea of religious freedom, let alone that of santo-daime like movements).
If you would want this plan to stand any chance, it would need a little polishing here and there, but the core is much more credible than you think.

Anyone remeber the pope of dope in nyc?
I belonged to his church, back in the nineties.Unfortunately he attracted too much attention but in mid may in nyc there is the pot parade. The parade starts in washington square park and marches up 5th ave to central park which is where the massive smoke-in occurs. There are police officers that escort the parade and you can smoke FATTIES,right in front of them without any recourse. It used to be pretty cool, althoug some un-peaceful smokers changed the good vibe over the years. I dont go anymore.

The Temple accepts all people, all races, sexes and Homo sapiens of every type, as long as they are over 17 years of age.

The Temple Advocates-

A return to communal, logical and more sensible systems of society.

The use of botanicals as a means of spirtuaility, enjoyment, enlightenment and happiness.

Peace among all of humanity. Non-voilence among Homo sapiens.

Sure, many synthetic drugs are harmful and addictive, but there are practical reasons for their legalization. Politics, the economy, and basic human rights. Many people have also had profound spiritual experiences with synthetic drugs like LSD, DXM, and 2-CB to name a few.

I know it may not figure directly into the specific guidelines of your religion, but I can't see why substances that may be useful to another's spiritual practice should be classified as nothing more than prescription medication.

Aside from that, I wish you godspeed.

I will make this as simple as possible... so it doesnt cause arguement as it did on the other forums.

I believe that a human being should be able to take any substance into their body that they choose as long as it does not harm other, directly or indirectly. That is my belief for society.

But my belief for my religion, for my Temple is that only a select few botanicals which we believe were sent directly from God to man, and are very safe are used.

Entheogens Advocated by the Temple must have a "yes" answer to the following Questions-

1) Does it come directly from organic botanical sources?

2) Does it have a long history of human use?

3) Does it's history of human use show that it is an effective entheogen?

4) Does it's history of human use show that it is relatively safe?

i say if scientology can call themselves a church - so can we! i also like where you're taking this coatl. i'd be joining if it were to be used in court or not. all religions started some day. scientology for example was founded in the 50s. thats not really that long ago. and seeing that more and more people start gaining interest in the psychedelic experience i guess its a good thing to start this thing as soon as possible! what will they do if they're outnumbered? ;)

i think that it is a birthright to do whatever one wants with ones life. maybe one should go and take pictures of alcoholics vs. pictures of psychedelic journeymen and make a nice picturebook of it. alcohol is a thing with which the government makes A LOT of money! that's another reason why they don't want people taking ayahuasca. it cleanses alcoholics of their bad habits.(at least it will if they're willing to work with it)
.....
gee, 'Coatl, can you please not make so long threads organised in such a list-type way? I presume that you write about lots of interesting information, but your format is just distracting and it is impossible for me to read them. It would be nice to make them more user friendly so they are readable.

Plain text format is certainly not the best format for conveying such lengthy information. You could format text pretty nicely in Word or Powerpoint and attach them?

I also like the thought behind al this. Still there is something about the whole thing, referring to religious freedom that sort of bothers me; that you would have to proof that it's a religious thing, and then you end up discussing what the criteria are to call something a religion or not. And this would implie that whenever you have certain ideas about life, that are supposed to give meaning, or whenever you'd be just looking for meaning, that when your search or convictions are of a religious nature, these ideas are more legitimate then if your ideas are more secular. I would want to emphasize that all ideas of any philosophical nature, religious or not, are legitimate. Otherwise, in a way, non-religious people would be discriminated by the freedom of religion.
I also think that if you would emphasize that 1-first philosophical ideas must fall under religious freedom as much as any religious idea and 2-the use of entheogens for exploration of the mind falls under a philosophical practice, the initiative has a bigger chance to succeed.
It's easyer to prove that the use of entheogens is of a philosophical nature, then it is to proof a religious context.

I still say - as I did on the Lycaeum - that the issue is not one of spirituality but the basic human right of a person to do with their body and mind what they will as long as it harms no one else, and that introducing a "church" only confuses the issue with a debate about what constitutes a legitimate church or religion.
It would be disingenuous of me to join such a church that I have no belief in simply to legally use psychedelics.
Our argument is more akin to gay rights than religious freedom. We engage in behavior that is beyond the mainstream and considered immoral by many in the mainstream and that is potentially risky to ourselves but harms no one else. As such, we have just as much right to engage in it as we do to love and have sex with whoever we want.
It's simply a life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness argument.

Your certainly correct in that, the Temple does not advocate the use of drugs like heroin or meth, we do however advocate freedom, and I think that includes the right to ingest what-so-ever you choose. I also believe you should be freeto be a Nazi (or whatever) if you want to be... but do I think that should be? Hell no.

Understand?

So...

Temple = Botanicals Only

Society = Freedom of Choice (concering the ingestions of substances)

A very good point concerning society, but not my Temple. Botanical intoxicates only for the Temple.

Good post Noman.

Feel free to start a Church of Synthetics and Extracts... we will see which one of our churchs is accepted by the mainstream first. (Not trying to piss anybody off, just making a point)

Please understand this is the first step... Botanicals may be accepted because of their history, but for the moment things like LSD and MDMA probably won't be when compared to things like Ayahuasca and Peyote. Not even gonna touch on the man-made narcotics (meth, heroin, coke, etc.)...
