The Big Picture - Animals caught in the oil...so sad...

That's the price of our addiction.

Accidents happen everyday all day no matter how safe the industry try to be.
The risk of accidents and damage to the Environment increase with our addiction.

Buying cheap gas saving a couple bucks, while our cars combined will continue to pollute the environment worse than the oil spill ever will..

Our demand is met by a risky supply.
That accident happened because we wanted that oil.

I don't think BPexecs let anyone know what some of the true risks were in drilling that far..

I shure as hell wouldn't have wanted them to drill into something like that if I knew the dangers.

Most shallow pockets of oil in the Gulf have been tapped already..
The Deep Horizon was drilling for Deep Oil.

Accidents are unavoidable and probable in time.
 
I am actually sort of glad this happened. I've come to realize after 10 or so years of trying to explain environmental issues to people that the only time they pay attention is when something bad happens. The Exxon Valdez oil spill although caused some outrage it was way up North where no one really saw it. Now its happening right in peoples backyards they have no choice but to pay attention now. This could really be a wake up call to people to start caring about environmental issues and holding companies accountable for their mistakes and promoting legislation to prevent such mistakes.

BP did lie about its capability to solve a problem like this. The government failed to take them up on those claims before they started drilling. That should NEVER happen. Its totally unacceptable.

Luckily this spill did happen in a warm area and the oil will degrade faster then it would have if it happened somewhere up north again. Its still a terrible disaster but I think the most important thing is that people learn from it.
 
My heart overflows with sadness. Only after the last tree has been cut down, only after the last river has been poisoned, only after the last fish has been caught, only then will you find that money cannot be eaten. This type of environmental destruction has happened many times, profit and material gain are far to important for the system to change. Environmental destruction is built within the system...

i am very grateful for the spice - it taught me many things.

i cried this morning. Again. So much crying for a man who is approaching "old."

i have a new girlfriend and feel so much hope and joy, but i told her last night i want us to go to the beach asap because i am worried that in 6-18 months world currents might make all coastlines not what they were.

i don't have kids. My new gf's are young adults and one is planning a family.

What have we done?

At what cost?

For what benefit?

there is a shut off valve on that rig. however it hadn't had a safety inspection in years. and you can't tell me with the money that BP has and technology the world has today that we couldn't have had this diverted with in a week. i dont buy any of their bullshit. i do agree with the fact that we need to steer away from oil dependency, but this is awful convenient for an administration and political party who likes to try and legislate morality (i.e. we all need to take better care of our environment, which should be a moral/ethical obligation, now heres a law taxing you or telling you to do just that.) by the way, i'm not a republican hating on dems, i'm not a rep. what happen is a tragedy and we need answers from Obama and his largest campaign contributor, BP. I agree with anyone that says this is Obama's "katrina" and further more, may even be his 9/11, depending on if you believe the "conspiracy"

No matter how many "safety equipments" are(or aren't) in place... accidents happen.

-Even if the rig was inspected, and the valve was shut, this still could have happened.
It could happen again tomorrow.
There is no such thing as perfect..

I can tell you technology and money are no guarantee of anything at all..

Look at cars and their "safety equipment" accidents happen all the time, regardless of technology or money spent.

That's why its called an accident..

It was only a matter of time until this happened.
Risk, chance, probability.
