You can think of sound as a slower vibration, yes. much further down along the spectrum, which is like rainbow after rainbow interwoven throughout the octaves of frequencies. I don't know how it works, but I think light acts as a particle, rather than a wave? I'm not sure.
(There are waves in the universe ~10 light years long...)

One could sit in front of some speakers with a signal generator and repeatedly subject oneself to certain tones while in hyperspace to get a better idea at what they do.
I speculate one wouldn't really be seeing solid colors, although it would be interesting if there was a predominant color as a sort of "theme" to the journey.
