Sounds horrible but these damn jahova witnesses and some other chrisitan group keep comming around door to door trying to have this same damn conversation about gods word..it's fuckning annoying and next time I plan in having a bible on hand so I can burn it for them and show them just how destructable the things is.

Then I will laugh and ask them where there god was when my ancestors were being burned alive, hung and drowned durrign the middle ages for practicing paganism.

I dont feel bad burning a book that stands for nothing but perversion anyway.

Let's take some of these ideas that you have presented, and take an alternative look for second. Humor me, if you will.

Pro-choice means murder and maining innocent baby by crushing their skulls or dismembering them. Pro-gay means destroying the fundamental institutions that hold this society together and indoctrinating everyone into being a bunch of fags(Excuse my language). Pro-diversity means that you would like to see our culture destroyed so everyone else can be happy. Pro-palestine means that you think the Israeli's should give up everything that they fought so hard for even though they have been willing to comprimise and the palestinians will never be satisfied until every last jews is dead.

That's not saying I'm on one side or the other, but that is how the "conservative side" looks at you. To you, they are insane, negative, and only want to hold you down. To them, you are gullible, want to destroy family values, and a heartless baby killing bastard. Both side have been quick to judge one another and made few, if any, attempts to understand one another.

For the record, I'd say I'm a civil libertarian, as much as I can be anyways.

I always felt - for example with the local right-wing people - that something spiritually important lies behind the annoying facades, actually I am sometimes quite mad at them for not being smart enough to realize and communicate this inherent wisdom clearly. They unconsciously mix the message with the input of their ego in a very infantile way and this makes me sad, seeing that those worthy things go unnoticed by the other party because of that.
 
I don't think that this is a symetric situation in the sense that on the 'other side' there are just as many legitimate objections against liberalism.

Trying to be reasonable and look at things from more than one angle is ofcourse a very good thing.

But that would mean for instance that you could say something like: "well stalin killed around 25 million people but if we look at it from stalins point of view that was perfectly legitimate" and then eventually saying that people against staling and in favor of him both have good points so a good compromise would have been not to kill 25 million people but only 12.5 million.

Let's not do the abortion discussion here, but from all the other points it's perfectly clear that it just means that accepting people are different and that people who're different than most of us also deserve to live in this world.

There is no way that accepting people are homosexual, muslim, atheist, palestinian or from a non-western culture could be a thread to the family, christianity, america or western civilization as a whole or the state of israel.

You mean that once you would accept that homosexuality is not a form of satan-worshipping, that would immediately turn you and everyone you know into a homosexual?
That implies that you are secretly homosexual because you find being homosexual actually a more atracting perspective than being heterosexual.
How else could it be a thread?

If you believe accepting muslims as equal to christians is a thread to christianity, then you somehow must believe that most people actually rather would want to be muslim than christian.

I don't hear liberals say that conservatives should deserve the death penalty.
President obama already received more death-threats then the bush administration.

While if you want to compare anyone to hitler, the bush administration would be the most apropriate for this: who invaded a country that posed no thread to the USA or any of it's allies? who lied to the public about the invading of a country that was no thread to the USA or any of it's allies? who sent many people to illegal prisons without any trial? who encouraged the torturing of prisoners?
They, the ones responsible for all the above, actually dare to compare obama, who hasn't done any of this, to hitler.

That's how asymetric the situation actualy is.
 
There is a doco called jesus camp, some of you may have seen it,
its about evangelical christians brain washing kids. Its really screwed up.
These people dont need the bible to be rewritten, they just brain wash kids and send them out to preach.

Alot of these people are just rediculous..I personally used to know a family that believed dinosaurs never really existed and all the skeletons they have in museums were created in some conspiracy..and that the BIBLE WONT BURN!...THey also told me I was wrong for believing in evolution because the bible told them so..these people are drones and seem to lack the ability to ask any questions for them selves.

More often than not I find insecure controll freaks who need an cut and dry answer for everything end up stuck in strange cults such as christianity..they cannot go through the day thinking that there may be things out there that they dontunderstand or are just beyond our comprehension of reality.

also: hullo nexus! i have been away from this forum far too long, and missed it. even though i have never been an avid poster, i certainly read a lot (and learned a lot too). feels good to be back again.
 
Americans have already re-written the Bible. They altered the ten commandments. Instead of it saying "Thou shalt not kill". It now reads "Thou shall not commit murder". That way executions are still posible.

This is only one of thousnds of instances of the bible being changed to suit the needs of religion. All the Abrahamic religions whether they be Jewish, Muslim or Christian are disgusting. They are all based on the same cread. They all seak to impose their morality on others and are all intolerant of any disenting voice. Countless millions of people have had to live in fear and die prematurley in pain by those who wish to impose their evil religious beliefs.
