The question is on extraction time

If emulsions occur its going to take a lot more then a minute. also should let it sit for at least 15 minutes even if no emulsion. that gives everything time to equillibrate. its not an essential or set time but still for good form let it relax before seperating.
 
emulsion is when, instead of there being only two distinct layers (naphtha and the mimosa water mix), there is a third foamy/bubbly layer in between both (or even the whole top becomes an emulsion with no distinct solvent layer at all

it happens if one shakes the container. It should be stirred or rolled around, not too strongly.

Emulsion can be unmade by waiting some more, by putting the whole thing on a warm bath, adding loads of non-iodized salt or increasing the pH
 
You can successfuly leave basified sludge sitting with naptha layers on for months. It won't hurt, and a very small volume this way seems to yeild highly. SWIM usually does that when he's got some spice allready extracted (he smokes it only occasionally)
