This solvent won't freeze precip

Hey guys, I'm doing a reX using Evo Stick adhesive cleaner. Its the closest thing I can get to heptane as I'm in the UK.

It contains -

ACETONE 10-30%

CYCLOHEXANE 10-30%

CYCLOPENTANE 1-5%

ETHYL ACETATE 10-30%

HEPTANE AND ISOMERS 10-30%

HEXANE, MIXTURE OF ISOMERS 5-10%

HEXANE-norm 1-5%

METHYLCYCLOHEXANE 1-5%

N-HEXANE < 1%

PENTANE < 1%


I dissolved some spice in a very small amount of it and put it in freezer over night. No precip whatsoever. Is there something in it that's preventing it precip'ing?

DMT is quite soluble in acetone at any temperature i'm pretty sure, unsure on the rest.

I think acetone is a polar solvent and therefore won't work .....I'm about 100% sure you can get lighter fluid(naptha) in the UK....

Honestly not sure all those chemicals you listed are even safe to use....

Do you really want to be in full hyperspace and wondering about what the hell all those chemicals were^???

Those chems are just a bunch of nonpolars + ethyl acetate and acetone, which Im pretty certain would evaporate cleanly and be harmless.

Unfortunately this is not a good freeze precip solvent blend however, becuase of the ethyl acetate and acetone, which freebase dmt is highly soluble in. Your best off just evaporating it off and recollect your spice.

Just wondering why one would not do a little research first. Perhaps where you live, thats all you could find, but VM&P naphta has been around longer than anything and is extremely easy to find. Alot of stores may not carry it, but an actual hardware store you should have no problem finding.

Sure heptane may be better for recrystallization, but if naphta works good, you might benefit from a 2nd recrystallization.

I would take solvent and wash it x5 with water, that would wash out any acetone, The ethyl acetate would stick around longer, but is still polar enough to be washed out with the water.

That would leave you with mostly aliphatic and cyclic hydrocarbons... DMT would have no problem freeze precipitating out of the aliphatic, but the cyclic hydrocarbons could keep the alkaloids dissolves at even lower temperatures..

but you should get some yield if you wash out the polar solvents first.

Do this washing before dissolving the DMT of course.

Naptha is readily available in basically every country, although the brand names vary considerably.
For example, in Australia, you will not find anything under the name Naptha, and is isted as Shellite.
In the appendix of the following Tek is a useful chart of International naming conventions for various solvents.

As you may already know, it's worth seeing if the solvent evaporates cleanly with no residue, prior to usage.
