Trip-killing dietary supplements - SAW PALMETTO???

5 hydroxytryptophan was the first dietary supplement SWIM noticed was a COMPLETE killer of vaporized DMT experiences. More recently, SWIM started taking Saw Palmetto for early signs of prostatic enlargement. Nothing else has changed. Diet - same. Work - same. Same batch of actives. Same vaporization technique.

Despite increasing dosages, SWIM sees hardly any effect, even after substantial periods of lay-off. SWIM never vapes more than once every three weeks or so, anyway. Has anyone else experienced a near complete suppression of DMT effects after a few weeks of taking Saw Palmetto??? (450mg 3 - 4 X daily).

Only way to find out is to stop taking the Saw Palmetto for a day or two and try vaping again. I am having problems with getting DMT to work, as well. I take a very low dose of Subutex and have a feeling it is inhibiting the effects of DMT somewhat. Personally, Wellbutrin and marijuana also inhibit the effects of DMT. I have heard some people have no problems with these combinations, so YMMY.

forget supplements..I had an enlarged prostate at only 24 years old..only thing that changed it was changing my diet completely over to fresh fruits and vegetables and cutting out all dairy, wheat, beef, tap water and some other things I was allergic to.

Some substances, and certainly 5-htp increase levels of serotonin in the brain, while DMT although it is a serotonin agonist, decreases serotonergic activity in the brain via a mechanism called downregulation. The activation of the serotin receptor downregulates the amount of serotonin receptor sites and the amount of serotonin in the brain.
It's thought that DMT makes the brain think it's levels of serotonin are too high and thus makes it react by rapidly and drasticly decreasing all activity that involves serotonin.
In that sense 5-htp and DMT do exactly the opposite thing.

I think that suplements and foods with tyrosine could boost the effects of DMT, but i haven't tried that out yet.

I know that eating fresh fruits boosts the effect of psychedelic's drastically for me, but i don't know if that is because of the sugar, the phenolic compounds that may act as MAOI's, or some proteins in them.

Yeah...it may be that that turns out to be the only way to make a clear determination and correlation. Shame. The Saw Palmetto seems effective for the urinary tract issues SWIM was starting to have. If its effective at that, maybe its effective in other arenas as well? Might take more than a few days of layoff, or reducing the number of pills to 1 per day instead of the recommended four.

So... discontinue the use of these dietary supplements. A nutritious diet cannot be replaced by dietary supplements.
Maybe scientists have been able to succesfully isolate and identify nutritional substances from our foods,
but that is no reason to assume that the substances they found and know are all that our diet contains.
Vital nutritional substances in our diets not yet known to science will be missing from dietary supplements.

Just eat varied and natural. Preferably grow your own vegetables and fruits. If possible keep your own chicken and do your own fishing.
I've never taken any of these dietary supplements in my life. It's complete nonsense. If I feel weak and find my imune system to be in a poor state(illness, drowsiness, muscle weakness, weak concentration, raptured mouth corners..etc) I just figure that I need to eat more healthy & varied and that I need to stabilise my sleep- and eating biorythm. If you feel that your body can no longer be properly fed and kept healthy by foods from the grocery store, don't compensate with dietary supplements; This is the emergency call for you to start growing your own foods.
The whole dietary supplement craze is just another commercial abuse of health-concern.

Trip-killing substances may actually be usefull if their "trip-killing" effects were immediate and acute. This could make for a good substance to "abort" a trip if it's getting out of hand.

SHroomtroll: This things are more or less essential. Pro/prebiotics work with your gut flora (probably one the most important "parts" that determined your general well being), vitamin/hormone D forms when being exposed to sun (it doesn't get more natural than this), vitamin K2 is speculated to be the X factor in the research of Weston Price (who dealth with diseases of civilization studying hunter gatherers or other more "establish" societies), magnesium is scarce in food and Super Enzymes can help you if you have food digesting problems.

Most dietary supplements are useless for the general population. Only if you have some nutrient deficiency or some other metabolic disorder are they really necessary. Of course many herbal supplements and related can have physiological effects. Good example is saw palmetto which does work for benign prostate hypotrophy (or is it hypertrophy i don't remember).

But always remember when something is sold as a dietary supplement, in the US, it doesn't need to have ANY evidence for its efficacy and no medical claims can be made. The dietary supplement industry is just as ruthless and manipulative as the pharmaceutical industry.

Only spend your money on products that have sound studies to back them up. Some dietary supplements are dangerous and are being found to cause serious liver problems (super concentrated green tea extracts are an example).
