Trying to skill up from noob level to basic level recommendations

Elven Dust

Rising Star
Hello Beautiful People,

I've done a few extracts maybe 6 in total over the last year. Initially I had great success with Mimosa Hostilis using Cyb's AB salted tek which is the tek I continue to use. Upon transitioning to using Acacia acuminata and obtusifolia I've had less success. Maybe 10 percent of the yield from Mimosa Hostilis. I've got my head around the basic steps of the AB salted tek. (acidifying, adding the saline solution, basifying, drawing off the shellite etc. I was wondering if anyone had any tips regarding the steps below?

Heating. I heat the acidified / basified mixture in a heat bath at around 70 degrees C then let it cool down in the water then take it out to place it into another pot with 70 degree C water repeating teh process. Should I be keeping it at a steady temp and what temp should that be? I've noticed some people on here talking about boiling for hours? Does this increase yield? Is it dangerous to boil it when there in shellite in the mix?

Freeze times and temps. I chuck mine in the freezer at -23c according to the temp gauge for around 24 hours. Should I be leaving it longer? Do you place the dishes in the fridge for an hour before placing them in the freezer?

Agitation / rolling. I do 5 rolls (leaving to separate) before drawing off the shellite. Is there any benefit from doing more?

Other applications. Although I've had mixed success It's somehow fullfilling and fun learning about this. What other applications are there for this sort of extract tek? What would you more advanced legends suggest I try other than this to become more awesome?

Thanks in advance for any help

You may want to consider expeimenting with putting each of your questions through the forum search function, as I've seen them answered on the forum multiple times over the years. Feel free to come back and engage our assistance in ironing out any inconsistencies between the answers you may find.

A couple of direct answers for free: acacia typically requires a defat during the initial acid phase, and greater success is consistently reported from using a better solvent like xylene or DCM. There have bbeen a couple of threads in recent weeks and months which go into the details of this.

The safety question is important enough to answer here too: heating shellite to boiling is at the very least wasteful as well as being potentially dangerous imply from the larger amount of solvent vapours released - unless you were able to use an apparatus incorporating a reflux condenser.
What other applications are there for this sort of extract tek?
Bonus answer: extract mescaline from home-grown trichocerus cacti using the CIELO method. Certain aspects areo, on the surface of it, somewhat different from what you're accustomed to, but the overall principles are quite universal.

Thanks for the reply and I will use the search function. I think I do a defat stage. That's the salting part? I will try the mescaline extract. Sounds like a new challenge

"Salting" could mean a few things but the usual one is this context refers to capturing a freebase alkaloid back out of a non-polar solvent (like naphtha or xylene, 'NPS') using an acid. This converts the alkaloid back to its water soluble, protonated, 'salt', form.

Another example might be where table salt is sometimes added to an extraction in order to increase the ionic strength of the basic aqueous phase, as you mention in the case of the A/B method you've used. Adding salt during the acid phase may well help to improve the efficacy of the defat (washing the acidic solution with a bit of NPS, prior to adding base and doing pulls with fresh NPS).

Hope this clears that up for you a bit!
