Turkey baster substitute? Flavor injector

Hey all-

Thanks for the help so far, I have every last supply needed for an A/B extraction however there is not a turkey baster in town because it is thanksgiving I would order one online but I'm trying to get this done tomorrow.

I did find 30ml flavor injector with a very wide needle, you can see through it barely

Will this suffice to suck up my naphtha layer? Or are there any other ways to do this without a glass turkey baster.

The flavor injector is made out of a very hard plastic
 
if you are sure that its hdpe2 plastic, it should be tolerant to naphtha iirc (don't take my word on that, should be info on the forums about hdpe2 and naphtha)
but i would recommend sticking with a glass or stainless baster
 
I think I remember something about naphtha not being good with HDPE, but I could be wrong, there is a table posted somewhere on the forum, I will try to dig out the thread.

EarthBounded, I would advise getting a 20-50ml glass syringe, they are much more accurate than a baster and they hold onto there contents when moved about which I have found can be a problem with basters. I used a baster for a year or so and thought it was fine but I would never go back now that I have used a glass syringe

A flavor injector will work just fine. I use one because my baster is huge and i could never get the last bit of naptha out with it. I noticed more DMT in my pulls as well using the flavor injector from getting more naptha out. Its just a regular walmart generic brand one. I dont use the syringe with it tho. The naptha only stays in there a couple seconds anyways.
 
Turkey Basters suck...i like these: the small 3 ml for small extactions,and the bigger adjusteble one i belive is perfect for bigger extractions-i belive they handle as much as 30 40 ml in one push(on the top button-we use these in my job)

Hello,

I would advise to use glass and stainless steel only for extraction purposes...

I prefer to use a graduated glass pipette and one of those triple-action rubber pipetting balls...

They are easy to obtain and quite cheap - some practice is required but once you get the hang of it, there ain't nothing better...

Also, I pipette the last bit of solvent off along with some basic soup, this is then transferred from my relatively wide extraction vessel into a very narrow graduated glass cylinder - this makes it a lot easier to get every last bit of solvent off cleanly... (I do rinse my pipette in between these steps)...

I'm actually about to buy some more of these things so each can have its own use, e.g. one for clean solvent, one for solvent + basic mix so I wouldn't have to clean them so often...

I also don't shake or roll my extraction vessel... I have two bottles and a stainless steel funnel: I mix by pouring back and forth... There is no pressure build-up whatsoever and no leakages or spills, just make sure to leave some space between the funnel and the receiving bottle so air can freely exit from it...

That sounds logical Endlessness,and i was thinking the same but....
My naphta comes in plastic bottles,and i thought that if the naphta is kept in plastic containers by the manufactorer that delivers it, it shuld be ok for us /me to:)

And i agree.. if you have all glassware...why take the risk to pollute the wonderful spice.
 
I also have ordered me some of these 100 ml test tubes,bet they are easy to get out most solvent and leaving the basemix in the bottom:) Is it the same type you use Dooby?

Hi 3rdi i dont know about that HDPE is :?: , i never heard about that before...But i get 34 % HCi on "PE-HD" plastic containers and 25 % natriumhypoklorite in it also and it has been here for years and probably stood in a warehous for a long time before i got it. And this is pretty strong solutions i mention here,my naphta comes in "PE-HD" to so i really think this is a dead issue.At least for me:) I can take pictures of the containers and post it if it makes people here more sure to use it.

I would prefer glassware ofcourse,but that is mainly because its easier to look throgh.
Dont mean to argue ,thats not my point(or style).

And i do not belive that the tryptamines disolve the "pe-hd" either

I believe PEHD is just another abbreviation for HDPE referring to the same plastic. Anyhoo, HDPE is designed to be resistant to acid and bases but not necessarily solvents. It is normal to find strong acids like muriatic or strong bases like lye stored in HDPE plastic. I have personally seen naphtha melt a turkey baster, which is when I switched to an all glass setup. Even though your naphtha may come in a plastic container, keep in mind that naphtha wasn't put on the market with the intent of you using it to extract and consume DMT. It is very possible that the solvent has dissolved some of the plastic which wouldn't be a problem for it's intended use(s) but becomes a problem when you want to ingest the final product.

I wouldn't consider using naphtha that came in a plastic bottle but that is just me. Of course in the end it is your decision what you decide to put in your body.

Poor reasoning:p

The naphthas that are sold in plastic containers like HDPE (or PE-HD, same thing) are not meant to be used to manufacture a product that will be consumed by humans, but rather to clean and strip paints off. Naphthas used for the manufacture of end products that may be used by humans (like pomace olive oil, peanut oil, canola oil etc) comes in non-plastic containers, usually metallic ones.

Naphthas and other NP solvents will not visibly degrade HDPE nor they will put holes in it, but they will be impregnated by compounds from the plastic's matrix.
 
Yeah i have to eat my Words here:oops: And the naphta came in pet plasticbottles,which is the same material as regular drinking/water bottles.Maybe even worse then pe-hd,i dont know.
It is proven that these pet bottles give away estrogen like hormones that can efeckt humans when the contents is consumed.And People drink that like its no tomorow.probably not smart to use that Product.It just souded logical for me that when a material is used for keeping thirty four % HCI,it shuld be really durable and solid.(but that made no sense since my naphta came in pet as mentioned anyway)

Thanks for straightning me out,im in a Learning process here and apreciate this info a lot,i ofcourse want to make as clean spice as possible. And going straigt to glassware myself :thumb_up:
 
Grab yourself a glass baster from ebay. If you have plastic basters, then use once for each extraction and throw it away.
In the end you want everything glass, even glass stirring rods.

Once i have my DMT, it will go straight into a glass vial, no zip lock plastic bags. Would seem weird having gone to all the trouble of using glass, for the DMT to eventually reside within a plastic bag. : )

But then i'm very fussy..:roll:
 
They make Pyrex pipettes in multiple sizes. Just google for them. Most laboratory supply stores will carry them. Glass is hands down your best bet.
