i have a plastic baster. doesn't say what kind of plastic. i was wondering, does it really matter, even if the solvent could grab some plastic, since the solvent will be squeezed out as soon as its sucked in? has anyone ever used "some old baster" and end with pure spice? and wouldn't recrystallization and washing get out any plastic?

Basters suck... well actually that's the wrong choice of word. They spit.

Better get some pipettes as they will hold onto solvent much more reliabley. I had to put my finger on the end of my baster in order for it not to spill everything it picked up. Hence I only did 1 extraction with a baster.

it all depens of what kind of solvent you use ,most solvents will melt the plastic, but im not sure if it would stay in the solvent.
Swim would recommend you find a glass one on the internet, its kind of hard to find in stores.

Don't use it...the amount of time it's exposed is irrelevant (unless you don't mind smoking a little bit of plastic but wouldn't want to smoke a lot)...if it's plastic that's soluble in limonene or petrochems, how are you ever going to be certain that you got it all out without using GC/MS? Get a glass baster, they're cheap and won't contaminate your end product.
