Voting system

Migrated topic.
 Ahhh Pandora...no doubt the cooler heads will eventually prevail (most likely whenever Trav wakes up)...until then

SMOALK MOAR!!!!

If a conspiracy could be proven it wouldn't be a theory , it would be conspiracy fact, I think the proof they try to give you is for some reason not accepted by main stream people.

That's not correct. Something not being provable or falsifiable doesn't make it not a theory. anything Actually for something to be a valid scientific theory it MUST be falsifiable. The reason that the "proofs" are often not accepted is because they are not real proofs and largely come off as paranoid delusions. Maybe history will vindicate the CT ideas but right now there is not enough evidence for the ideas to be really accepted. If you want to see what could be acceptable as proof maybe look at historical journals to see the kind of sources that historians might use when they study this in the future.

Good thread!!

Three quotes for your entertainment:

"Democracy means simply the bludgeoning of the people by the people for the people"- Oscar Wilde

"The best argument against democracy is a five minute conversation with the average voter"- W Churchill

"Democracy arose from mens thinking that if they are equal in any respect, they are equal absolutely"- Aristotle.

"Smoalk Moar!!!!"- this, seems to me, to be the right answer to this conundrum.:)

Well, this is a tribe, a chiefdom. It works, because the community developed around the chief and several "big man". The community culture is established, that is why, most people are against changing it by vote because it would lead to newcomers trying to change a culture many people are happy to live in.

I think there is nothing wrong with a tight knit community, on the contrary. Change can and WILL occur, just because psychedelics promote change. But the people will change together, they won't be dominated by numbers. That's what partnership is all about.

Darn, busted! :D

As for the fine line between what is allowed and what not with the CT's, I think it's unmanageable and unfair to bluntly make a rule what is allowed and what not. Currently, every time when a CT or something that is leaning towards a CT pops us, it is looked at before letting it life or cutting it down.

I would hate it when people start to say "CT! Lock it!". There are enough gray areas that are allowed. I would even go as far as saying that as long as it's politely debatable it will stay alive. In the past we have seen many sorts of CT's that were unable to keep alive without garbage getting thrown around and those type of CT threads will be locked if we see them, on the other hand we can also see other threads that are able to sustain itself and they can be kept alive, like the Zeitgeist one were people suddenly were able to politely debate. :D

I would love it if people would look at the Attitude page and act towards the ideas it brings, on the other hand I'm realistic enough to know that not all can do that all the time when the debate gets heated, I guess even I am not able to keep that up. Because of that human behavior, with certain topics (like the 9/11 one) you just know it will always end in a trench war and they will be locked.

Then back to the voting for new members. I think I will make it so that people can vote for new members to be promoted but that the results will only be visible for the moderators. That way it can help the moderators to decide who to promote but it will not automatically promote a member after so many votes. What do you people think about that idea?

Kind regards,

The Traveler

I like that idea as well...definitely makes it easier to figure out who to promote and would help with people in similar positions to jbark back in the day...I think it's a great idea to help keep people from slipping through the cracks.

I think its good to keep people thinking and I also think there are always ways to improve things, its called evolution.

So Traveler, keep on rockin man :)

I don't think the voting thing is necessary, and it would possibly create way too many polls and opinions to be manageable. And how many people would even vote? There are thousands of members, and it seems like less than 5% vote on anything.

Besides, I think The Traveler usually makes decisions that the majority of members agree with anyway. And yeah, it's his site, and a damn fine one it is.

I really like the idea of a voting system for new members.

Anything else, no.

Rayoflight, I have a feeling you are mixing forums up. Please look for a CT forum for your throughts on CT....and please post your thoughts and experiences on DMT on the (wait for it).....DMT-Nexus.

If people have been slipping through the cracks then voting is a good idea, however, AFA-this newbie-CT so far, the existing system seems to have been working. A potential danger in voting is introducing a bias in favour of politicians.

As a mod I can tell you, I try to promote everyone who I see as espousing the general attitude of the Nexus. However, I (and I assume the other mods as well, but won't presume to speak for them) am human and have a life outside of the Nexus. As such, there will be time periods where I don't promote anyone, although no doubt there are many who deserve promotion. This is nothing more than the effect of my own exhaustion/schedule but it has a real-world effect that has direct bearing on new members. As such, if there is a mechanism we can put into action that allows for us to, at a glance, see that there are members who warrant promotion (and don't need us to have interactions with them or read through their prior posts in order to establish this), I think it's worth a shot.
