Were does the sodium hydroxide go?

SWIM has been doing a little research on how to make dmt, most likely will. But swim has one concern. Were does the sodium hydroxide go?! The only thing swim can think of is that it stays in the dmt crystals giving most of the yield to actually be sodium hydroxide. Please explain if one can tell me were it goes. Swim doesn't want to be smoking sodium hydroxide.

Let me try to tackle that :)

Technicaly one extracts DMT ,it is not "made".I am knit picking a bit, but still its good to know.

Now,from what i gather you ask from the perspective of an acid/base extraction which utilises a polar phase (water) and a non polar (for example hexane, heptane etc). The sodium hydroxide will stay at the polar layer, that is dissolved in water. The non polar layer shouldnt contain any or it should contain minimum amounts. Even if it is so, salting to recover DMT (that is using an acid to react with the freebase DMT) will "take care" of sodium hydroxide converting it to its respective salt and rendering it ,as far as caustic concerns go, harmless.

Ok thank you very much, that was the only thing keeping swim from making it. Swim cares about health very much.

its true!

dmt is already there..and the chemicals used in these teks are just to separate them from excess material that is either harmful to your health or tastes really bad

you get MHRB soup mixed with NAOH, and you do pulls on that with (most commonly) naptha. that gets all the dmt out of the MHRB soup, so now all your dmt is in the naptha(or whatever solvent you used), and you can toss the soup(neutralize with vinegar to ph ~7...although i do think people just throw it down the drain)
