Very interesting question. I looked around quickly and didn't find any sources, but I'm sure it can be had from somewhere. I'll keep looking...
Are C. Paspali cultures similar to C. Purpurea cultures in terms of their toxic effects (e.g., 'St. Anthony's Fire' and gangrene)? Could they be cultured on agar or enriched grains, similarly to some of our other little fungal friends? Is it possible to reliably separate the preferred alkaloids from the dangerous ones? Sorry to respond to your question with a bunch more, but I often contemplated the idea of culturing Purpurea as a kid and eventually gave up because of a general lack of info/resources as well as some scary warnings from the few sources I could find. I'd love to know if anyone's got any more info on cultivating this interesting fungus. This would be for ergotamine's beneficial effects on migraine headaches, of course.
