Worried about forcing too much energy

Migrated topic.

Hey all, I need some advice. Let me give you a little background and then I'll get into my problem.

I have little psychedelic experience before DMT. Took mushrooms a couple times maybe 15 years ago, salvia once around the same time. Nothing too profound, just recreational.

Before I ever tried dmt a couple weeks ago, I had been meditating for about a year. I recently reached a point in my meditation where I started to feel pressure in my head, which could reach a point where it was painful. It felt like my eyes are straining. As soon as I dropped my concentration or opened my eyes, it went away instantly. At first I thought I was just crossing my eyes or something when I was focusing.

Then I tried DMT. At 10 mg, I felt a similar pressure in my head. I did some research on this and decided it may be something called kundalini syndrome, where too much energy is being drawn in but the body is not practiced enough at distributing it so it collects in the head. In physical terms I imagine this equates to muscles contracting that I can't consciously control. I think DMT is bringing in a big surge of energy similar to what meditation does but stronger. After doing DMT the first time, I found that this feeling would come up almost instantly when I started to meditate, which I associate with getting "deeper", so this seemed like a good thing in a way.

Fast foward to this Friday. I had had a minor headache earlier in the day but it had faded after I took an NSAID. I tried 17mg in my GVG, previously had not done more than 10mg. Instantly got a huge headache that continued throughout the trip, and lasted all through Saturday. I don't remember any feeling of "hitting a wall" or anything during the trip, it was visuals that I've gotten somewhat accustomed to after a few trips but more 3D than usual. Today (Sunday) when I woke up, the headache was basically gone but I can still hear the tinnitus (which I know is common) and blood rushing through my head if I pay attention. My mind feels a bit... raw. When I meditate, I definitely get the feeling even deeper than before, more painful but I can dissipate it somewhat by focusing on relaxing all the muscles in my head.

I know that sub breakthrough experiences can be harder like this, but this really makes me afraid to try to break through. Am I trying to force too much energy in when my nervous system is not prepared? I feel like this may be the case. I am considering trying to meditate more and perhaps try some other psychedelics such as psilocybin and 5-MeO-MiPT to try to prepare my nervous system / chakra system more before I dive back into DMT.

Would greatly appreciate any advice.

We can't diagnose anything or give medical advice here on The Nexus, and I'm kind of stumped as to what might be causing your headache meditation, but I would recommend going to a doctor and getting a CT scan or MRI before attempting DMT again.

My fear is that the changes in cranial blood vessel dilation brought on by serotonergic drugs could be putting you at risk of something like a stroke. DMT causes your blood pressure to rise pretty dramatically, and cerebral vascular accidents have been known to occur when a vulnerable person takes DMT.

I'd consider this effect a warning sign that you should be in contact with a doctor. Unexplained head pain isn't something to sweep under the rug.

Thanks for the advice. I just checked my blood pressure and it is 120/80 which is normal for me. I'm guessing that it was very elevated right before I took it as my heart was pumping fast due to pre-flight nerves. That combined with the sudden vasoconstriction after intake probably slammed a bunch of pressure into my already sensitive head.

I don't feel like there is any permanent damage so I'm not quite to the point of going to get a CT scan but I will stop taking the DMT. I am very interested in the spiritual growth potential but will try to find a way that doesn't involve raising my blood pressure so much.

When you say "concentrate" - do you notice yourself tensing any muscles, particularly ones in the pelvic region?

Perhaps a bit at the end of the outbreath, I think just due to contracting the belly though from breathing.

Now that you mention it, if I try to avoid contracting my belly it seems like there is less pressure in the head...

Have someone take your BP while meditating.

"D: Bhagavan, each time I meditate, I feel a great heat in the head, and if I persist my whole body burns. What is the remedy?

M: If concentration is made with the brain, hot sensations and even headache ensue. Concentration has to be made in the heart, which is cool and refreshing. Relax and your meditation will be easy. Keep your mind steady by gently warding off all intruding thoughts, but without strain – soon you will succeed."

I know we're not ones to give medical advice, but I've gotten headaches after DMT, I've had a bunch of friends who have gotten a headache from DMT. It could just be that it is a potential side effect.

Psilocybin has been known to cause day-after headaches as well. I don't think anyone knows why.

In general, the headaches are after the fact - the OP described getting a headache immediately upon ingestion, which makes me think it has more to do with the DMT being a fast-acting pressor.

hi there.

no medical advice from me either... just some questions for yourself - because i realized a effect on those on me:
how is your nicotine, caffeine and water consumption on those headache days?

cheers PN

I normally don't have headaches that often... when i feel the pressure which can border on pain during meditation it is only while I am focusing and immediately fades after.

I try to drink enough water, probably should drink more but I have looked into it and I don't think it's enough to cause any effects like that. I don't consume too much caffeine, don't drink coffee and I don't smoke.

I still feel like I have a very minor headache or something bordering on a headache. Hoping that it goes away after a week or like my tinnitus does after doing DMT. Unfortunately last time that happened my deeper meditations went with it =/
