xylene (dcm is late to the party)

My unicorn needs to get cooking and dcm is going to be really late to the party. Hes read just about every thread he could and still has a q about xylene. Sorry if this is beginner stuff, he honestly couldn't find any threads on these specific questions, please link him if hes just over looking them.

He was wondering if you HAVE to salt out the dmt in xylene, or if I can just evap and wash it with warm bestine, then do the big freeze? (so hoping you don't have to salt it)

also, are there any advantages to using vinegar over citric acid?
 
If you're using xylene, you want to salt out your alks. Evapping xylene is absolutely horrible, but it works really well for salting fumarates out of, so why not do that? Xylene takes a while to evap, and it's nasty nasty shit.

Both vinegar and citric acid will produce hygroscopic salts that will absorb moisture from the air, fumaric acid forms a dry salt that can be stored for long periods.

It works really well to just salt the fumarates out in xylene, dry them for a day or two until there is no more xylene smell, freebase them with sodium carb, and pull with bestine until it is exhausted, produces very pure freebase this way.
 
I always used FASA out of xylene and it worked amazingly. You can then shake it up afterwards with some water and retreive the xylene without the Fumaric acid and acetone for re-use.

Xylene's horrible to evap unless you're very, very patient and don't mind the smell of Satans scooter backfiring in your locality :(
 
thanks guys, wasn't a fan of fasa but thanks to the suggestions here, took the time to read it and have it down now, and it doesn't seem that big of a deal. It seemed like a long way to go, but now not so much.

Appart of my unicorn wants to evap the xylene just to see for himself whats up. BUUUUT he thinks he might yield to better knowledge for the time being and try to find some fumaric acid.
 
I diddnt want to make another thread for this, but if anybody wasn't aware, bestine is freakin expensive, just dropped 16 bucks on a pint.
 
Bestine is expensive, but if you use it only for crystallization, it is actually not a bad deal. You only need like 50 - 80ml of heptane to crystallize about 600mg of dmt, and you can reuse it over and over. One pint should last you a while.
