When I told Polytrip to let me know if I should delete this thread I was VERY serious. He was saying this thread was doing more harm than good by posing a risk to newcomers reading this, and he's probably right. That's why I said just say the magic word, please. Come on, man, even you could understand that it's just a simple light-hearted way to say that the existence of this thread depends on his choice. I still maintain this stance.

How about a truce, MV? I don't respond anymore to your posts, and you don't respond anymore to mine. This would eliminate the occurrence of another flame, and save the Mods a lot of grief. This whole thing is making me want to leave the nexus or something becasue people are treating DOS like shit and cannot seem to be nice to eath other..it really shows where one is at when all they can do is resort to insults and putting each other down..it's fucking sad:(

It's very frustrating to see someone embarking on a very serious, risky journey that has the potential to do harm to the community. But I guess nobody can change his mind now, so one last thing:

Make sure, your sitter is strong. I recall, the Shuar/Jivaro use nightshade alkaloids to gain arutam souls, and they ALWAYS have strong sitters, who are physical capable of holding you DOWN.

^yes I can undertand that but the name calling is just unnecessary and reflects poorly on the nexus as if we are 5 year olds that cannot treat each other properly. Thats all.
If the mods wanted the thread gone it would be gone..and when it gets to the point where it IS becomming a liability or something I think the mods will step in a do something..we have good moderators here and I trust them. There is no point in fighting.
 
everybody should be careful and healthy.. datura is a substance that is not to the liking of many people here, that people here dont recommend, that is relatively dangerous (like other things in life), and if one still thinks he should do it then take many many many precautions including taking low doses, good set and setting and very importantly at least one STRONG sitter for the whole duration. This was supposed to be the message, I guess. Nobody should preach on anybody or be name calling.. but think about it, even if someone calls names or whatever, its just certain symbols in our screen. We make meaning out of them, and one only gets offended if he lets himself get offended.

Its just ze intrawebs, ya know? :D

In any case, if someone thinks he has some good point to make about the discussion or thread in general, then think about if it really benefits the forum or if its just ego reacting before posting, please...

I think you would be offended by these words (which were directed at me) if I wasn't just typing them to make a point. Words are all we have on the Nexus so they are nothing to take lightly unless you want to let people walk all over your digital face.

This thread is completely off topic at this point. It was an interesting discussion, with valid points made about safety and awareness of entheogenic foraging and consumption and it highlights some good debate. That being said, it's somewhere completely different and reads unlike almost any other nexus thread which is highlighted by the hostility, obscenity, and name-calling. We should either get it back on track or lock it up, i see no need to delete.

Again, I am well aware of everyone's genuine concern for each other here, and that is one of the main reasons why I stay at the Nexus despite being verbally attacked by a couple people. I am very thankful. BUT, it is more than about me as you guys stressed over and over again. It is about everyone who reads this thread and the possible consequences of certain uninformed newcomers reading about the idea of high-dose datura. I guess you guys are answering for polytrip. Tropane alkaloids are not hallucinogenic deliriants until you take doses that are near fatal doses. This is what makes them so dangerous to use for altered consciousness. Hyoscyamine is active at microgram doses with 50 micrograms enough to be felt, especially when used with other medications. The dosage range used for hyoscyamine is normally between 400 and 800 micrograms. At those doses it’s been safely used in adults for a long time. It continues being prescribed by doctors at that dosage range. Scopolamine’s potency is nearly identical to that of hyoscyamine. Altered consciousness doesn’t start happening until you get into milligram dosage ranges above 1 milligram. The amount needed for delirium is unknown, but said to lie very close to a lethal dosage. Meaning that a deliriant dose for one person could very well be a fatal dose for another.

Datura plants have killed millions of people.

Delirium from tropane alkaloids is a symptom of overdose. If given by a doctor, dosages would be immediately stopped if delirium occurred in a patient because medical history shows that death usually occurs shortly after delirium levels are reached. These are not really deliriants, they are anticholinergic medicines useful for altering many bodily functions. Only at near overdose levels do deliriant effects begin.

If you experience delirium from datura, you should have someone with you who can get you medical attention immediately. The difference between a deliriant dose and a fatal dose is extremely small. The exact dose needed for delirium and death is UNKNOWN and likely varies a lot from person to person. It is above 1 mg for adults, and that’s about all that I could find on the matter.

For hyoscyamine, 10 mg and up is reported as a lethal dose in adult humans. For scopolamine some sources state 2-4 mg as being lethal in adults. Think about that. You need more than 1 mg for deliriant effects. 1.5 mg is said to be the maximum safe medicinal dose. Why toy around with it at that dose?

Taking 3 Datura stramonium seeds, you’re only getting a maximum of 210 micrograms of hyoscyamine if the seeds are super large super potent seeds. With a typical seed, 3 amounts to about 90 micrograms of hyoscyamine. That is a safe dose. It’s below the medicinal dosage range of 400-800 micrograms. I would not take anywhere near 400 micrograms. You only need a small amount when using them to potentiate the effects of other drugs. For example, 50-200 micrograms will potentiate the effects of LSD or mescaline, 400-800 would also, but 400-800 micrograms would make you feel dry, and possibly experience other unpleasant bodily side effects. So there’s no point in taking that much.

The best way to experience datura is to use it in safe doses to potentiate the effects of another psychoactive plant.

There is no safe way to use datura on its own for altered consciousness. Even experienced shamans who use datura regularly for delirium have died from it.
 
Thank you, Ron for the valuable information on Datura Stramonium. Correct me if I'm wrong but aren't Datura inoxia far less potent in comparison? Do you know the levels of hyoscyamine, and scopolomine present in inoxia?
