2year old mimosa in shock

I have had my 2 surviving trees in the garden all summer. I live in FDA zone 8.and there have been frost warnings so i wanted to move them indoors. I had their pots in side a hole, the tops level with the ground and the roots had grown through the drainholes and into the soil. One I transfered successfully with the rootbal intact but one the soil around the rootball collapsed and the roots were exposed to dry air for a few minutes before i could pot her. Now the leaves are staying folded and seem to ne drying. Any advice on how i can nurse her up and keep her alive? I can post pictures this weekend.

How long since you moved it? Is it getting enough light indoors? Ime, mimosas are doubly hard to overwinter because they don't like cold only a little more than they don't like low light.

Also, did you dig out the roots from the ground, or is it possible the tap root was broken?

Otherwise, just treat it as best you can, so make sure it was watered in once good in the new pot then let it dry out a bit. No drastic changes, just see if it rebounds.

The taproot seemed intact but may have been hurt a little, i had to cut the pot away and in the shuffle much of the dirt fell way. It was poorly planned as i was not anticipating re-potting them. The second I used more care extracting and dug her out carefully. The leaves on the first are drooping and browning aftrr a week.

They are both outdoors now the. Frost never came so I am taking time to make sure they have lots of light where they are going. They have survived a lot of stress before, squirrels digging them out as seedlings etc... they were both doinf very well. I am talking to her a lot.

skooby, how are your girls doing? I have a 2 month old that I've been growing indoors that just went into shock, I think from temperature change. I got a space heater for the grow site since the room is the worst insulated in the house and was getting down to ~50 F (10 C) at night. First morning since bringing the temperature up the leaves are staying closed. Nothing else has changed significantly, though yesterday was also when I watered her. Freaked me out this morning to see that her leaves weren't opening. Nothing I can do but ride it out from what I can tell, but man am I worried about her...

The one in shock died. I think the taproot breaking is the culprit. It was sad to watch her go down especially since the temp never dropped and i could have exercised more caution. She was actually the largest of the two. Now I have the one left next to a standing 65K T5 fluorescent and it is actually growing a lot of new lower branches. Bottom watering and fertilizing every two weeks. Generally I use fish emulsion but I did give her a drink with miracle grow that seemed to stop any yellowing. For chemi shit it is one of the purer fertilizers and I won't be harvesting anything off her for a few years I think.

Not sure if this will help yours but maybe get some 3mil plastic from the hardware store and wrap her at night tightly as you can. I have a winter garden outdoors that I close cover ind it has survived some freezes (but they are brassicas) Last year I made a pvc tent but a lot of stuff froze with the plastic not being close to the plants.
