First order of business... To thank all the amazing entities that reside here at the Nexus for the wealth of knowledge and the guidance provided.

SWIM is no stranger to the counter culture, from the bass craving ravers to the hippie festival lot kids, SWIM has always found so much more freedom with those like minded individuals who have found that there is something beyond the blinders of everyday life.

Psychedelics however have always been a different realm for SWIM. They exhibit traits that move beyond that happy go lucky feel that most other drugs provide. Some of the most profound self-realization can occur under the influence of LSD, or the deep connection you feel with nature through psilocybin. Each hallucinogenic compound brings a new perspective to the table and awakens either through choice or by force new thoughts and feelings that otherwise lay dormant in the recesses of the human mind. It was through this belief that the mental stimulus of psycadelics truly does provide external insight into reality that SWIM discovered thier great interest in the concepts of contemporary shamanism and ethnobotany. SWIM was enthralled by the works of McKenna, Shulgin, Ott, Pinchbeck, and many of the other modern day psychonauts. The thing that truly peeked SWIM's curiosity with the writings of these individuals was their accounts of the the meditative and healing properties of psychedelics that have been ritualistic since almost the dawn of humans, and our species interwoven history with hallucination inducing plants.

In what could essentially be designated as SWIMS's previous existence, they were entrapped in the commercialism mindset of a drone of corporate America. Even for all the business propaganda and H.R. rhetoric that was almost methodically reprogramming SWIM's psyche, there always was part of them struggling to escape my button down prison. The details unfortunately will have to remain for another day, however SWIM did escape and has never looked back. SWIM now pursues a love of glass artwork as a professional lamp worker (glassblower) and travels around the country, meeting wonderful like-minded people all along the way. In the new and adventurous time in SWIM's life in seemed somehow very fitting for my introduction to the Spirit Molecule first hand.

SWIM can only say that reading does not prepare you for the experience. For all the accounts SWIM has absorbed and images viewed, there is no appropriate method to convey the experience. Beauty in all its forms, suddenly apparent.

Thanks primarily to the Nexus, half a bio-chemistry degree :)P), and actual lab equipment SWIM has produced some very high quality spice right out of the gates. While SWIM is still yearning to learn what this new substance can teach, and can not say for sure what to make of all of it yet, but knows there is something very very special about this particular compound. Lurking this website has given SWIM many interesting theories and perspectives to contemplate regarding this new and exciting realm.

I apologize for what is a long winded post, I have a tendency to be more verbose than required, but really what I am trying to say is... THANKS!

Excellent intro essay :D
Better to be verbose and say what you mean, than sacrifice meaning for succinctness.

Which books did you read? I'm not sure where to start, I've watched all of McKenna's videos on YouTube, so I don't know how much I'd get out of buying his book. I was thinking of buying Huxley's book.

You seem to have the best background imaginable for your interests. Chem + glassmaking = perfect :) I myself am looking to meet like minded people in my area, but all I've found are kids who do psychedelics to "see trippy shit."

Have fun, I look forward to seeing your contributions :D

So to get you started with some light reading sir:
DMT: The Spirit Molecule by Rick Strssman (I am sure this is a favorite among people on this board for obvious reasons)
Flashbacks by Tim Leary (I personally do not agree with much of Leary's writings however he is an important counter culture writer who at the very least is worth checking out)
Food of The Gods by Terrence McKenna (absolute must for ethnobotonists)
Storming Heaven by Jay Stevens (essentially the history of the LSD culture but an excellent read about societal impacts of psychedelics).
TIHKAL and PIHKAL by Sasha Shulgin (the encyclopedia of synthesized compounds by the man who invented more psychedelic compounds than anyone)

This should put you on the right track sir.

Thank you, good sir! I didn't consider reading TiHKAL and PiHKAL because I figured they would be too technical. I'm checking out the online versions and I'm pleasantly surprised :D

I'll try finding the others at a nearby library!
