A friend of mine is thinking about doing the lazy man's DMT extraction... he was looking through the materials he needs, and the tek states that a 5-liter bowl is needed... 5 liters!? That's a huge bowl... he can't even find one online... where can he aqcuire one of these?? Strangely enough, it seems like the hardest thing to get from all the things needed.

Plastic does not sound very safe once you get the base and Naph in there. The naph would probably take some of the plastic with it. Find a glass or ceramic bowl or large jug or jar. Stainless might work but SWIM would be worried about the base eating it little possibly.

Ceramic may be corroded by the lye. SWIM used plastic without any problem... Naphta has nothing to see with acetone. And after all, naphta is sold in plastic bottles (and lye also)

Lye does and will disolve plastic. This is reason why there are warnings and stipulations about its use when clearing plastic drains. Also it is why any decent and comprehensive extraction tech recomends glass, ceramics and stainless steal. I have a freind who ignored these recomendations in his earlier extracting experiments and did manage to part desolve the plastic utensiles he was using. The resulting extractions were unusable and totally beyond his abilities to clean up. Even taking his product right back to acid and reextracting was of no avail. He eventually had to dump this product and swallow the cost. He learnt that lesson. Now my friend uses lab grade equipment and swears he can taste the difference. If you're wanting your spice to be as pure as possible you really do need to look towards lab supplies.

Swim has used both glass and plastic in her extractions. Glass is definitely the way to go! Recently Swim used plastic 2.5 gallon containers that hold pretzels just because the sheer size of it was appealing (extracting a whole lb at a time!!) Long story short, the plastic must have had some week spots in it and the entire mixture leaked out onto swims kitchen floor over night. She woke up to a HUGE mess and was late to work all because she didnt use glass. UGH. :(
