My grandpa use to have a part cleaning vat we used a 55 gal drum of naptha with a pump and bursh system to clean auto parts. My question is the drum has about half of the naptha left would it be wise to use this old fluid or not. Its decades old mind you im only asking because its not being used why let it go to waste?

Welcome, first of all I would say NO. It is highly likely that it is full of contaminants due to degradation of an old 55gal drum. Not to mention it is probably surrounded by all kinds of dirt and grease being in an old auto shop.
Have you extracted before? Any previous experience with DMT other entheogens? Are you interested in trying ayahuasca as well or are you strictly drawn to extracting and using your own freebase? Tell us a little about yourself, it is always interesting to hear how people gravitate to the Nexus there is always a good story involved

Not a bad idea; waste not want not.
It should be fine if it's been stored properly; but to make sure just pour some onto a clear surface and evaporate it.
If you see any residue then it's not clear enough to produce a clean finished product.
And if it does turn out to be tainted you can always use it for bonfires?

I do agree its a cheap readily available solvent and after thinking about it it would be a better idea to get some thats fresh. It seems clean though.
As of yet i havnt experimented or extracted im in the educating myself process. Im one of those people that wants to know everything about something before i try it. Ive been over to erowid reading experieances and they have a lot of information; ive just been reading a lot haha.
But anyway im not entirely sure how i became interested i think it started when i found the Tor network and its "hidden site" (not sure if i can disclose the name of it) i was mostly interested in the effects of another substance so i was reading about it and stumbled upon people discussing this magical molecule and how you can DIY. Basically just bored with life theres been a lot of issues over the past year or so thats left me in a rut. Maybe its the wrong reason?

As far you could get with it if its dirty old solvent, is use it for rough pulling as resources shouldn't be unnecessarily wasted, safety for all(including yourself) is presidentially first. If you feel you want to dive into a act of alchemy set and setting is prime. You need to have place where the people who will inevitably be around not be startled is pinnacle cause it takes while focusing on becoming a chef chemist/shaman healer for yourself and only those who will be in benefit of contact.
It takes awhile to build up patience and caution, it helps a lot after dissolution. If you got that down then the next sentence should read. As meditative thought progresses your life is going to be grasped at what humans can move their Chromosomes to read life through the next wakening exogenous moments. First you must be very sure of everything your imagine can conjure so when the situation dealing with freebase occurs, its a tool not a broken law in the universe you think to deal, your in the right place when it can be both and, a vibration in time that can show answers to questions :3. Imagine the build up to a sky dive, lots of factors dealing with equipment to weather is addressed. The place to pick is one you feel safe enough for a nap at, but compared to the skydiver this will have a much different impact and experience than the skydiver.
To your question it should be fine to initial pulls with it, though I must say re-extraction with newer solvent is needed and you'll be able to solidify better and purer crystalline structure for clearer flash.
