Swim has been fortunate enough to have been invited to stay for a long weekend with a couple who have a cabin in the woods to partake in an individual ayahuasca ceremonie led by a shaman of the shuar tribe. It will be swims fist time with aya :d
In speaking with the shamans wife, she was expressing her husbands focus on the introspective aspects of the ceremony as appose to using external tools such as,singing, drums and so on.

I was wondering if anyone knew of any good books that focuses on different tribes and religions within the amazon that employ ayahuasca as a religious sacrement and the different types of practices or healing ceremonies that are are used for different purposes.
I've been searching around but i havent found a book that really focusses on that particular subject.

there are a few books that dont relate to aya...but are great shamanistic books...one is The Way Of The Shaman...another is The Shamanic Experience....they might help you with understanding how you should go about getting ready for the experience

Yeah, i'm familiar with "the way of the shaman" (it was recomended to me by someone else),it looks like i'm gonna have to go on amazon and pick it up.
Still if anyone knows of any good books regarding different aya practices it would be much appreciated. :)

I have one but it´s in secret language.. It´s called ´O uso ritual da ayahuasca´ .. The same woman who organized this book (a collection of essays) also wrote a book called "A reinvenção do uso da ayahuasca nos centros urbanos", which talks about the different urban uses, from churches, to psychonauts, to new age therapies. Also very good stuff

The first one in special covers a lot of anthropological ground, chemistry, details of rituals.. it´s a great book, loads of information.

Though I imagine you dont speak secret language :(

then there are a few books I dont have but maybe could be good.. There best bet I guess would be Ralph Metzner´s book called 'Sacred Vine of Spirits: Ayahuasca´.

Also there is a book in german by Arno Adelaars and Christian Raetsch called ´Ayahuasca: Rituale, zaubertränk und visionäre Kunst aus Amazonien´. Raetsch always has great info.. too bad its only in german .

Thanx endlessness :)
I wish there was an english translation but i will definately check out Ralph Metzner's book.
I've dated a few brazilian girls i should have learned more portuguese!!! :)
