A/B's Mescaline Extraction ?'s

Hey everyone,

Hope this finds you all well. After some research here on the forums I have decided to take a stab at Kash's A/B tek for extracting Mescaline from fresh San Pedro cactus. I did have some questions in regards to preparation I was hoping I could get the knowledgable people on this forums input on.

First off, I have read small excerpts on here regarding microwave and pressure cooker extraction techniques but nothing definitive as far as cook times etc. I am interested in speeding up extraction time is possible and if safe, so these were of interest to me. Does anyone with experience using either of these care to chime in? Thank you in advance for your input.

Also, it seems clean separation of layers tends to be a big problem for some people. A common suggestion is a " hot water bath." I take hot baths sometimes but i'm assuming this isn't the same thing. Is this simply setting the solution in hot water however possible to encourage separation?

With a pressure cooker 3 or 4 30 min boils get most of the goodies out.
If you're looking to speeding up extraction time you're better off with the STB tek. It saves you the lengthy boiling and straining snot part. It also is less prone to emulsion problems.

When you decide to go the A/B route make sure the basified liquid is not to viscous. Filter the boilings well.
If emulsions occur, in my experience vibrations work better in clearing an emulsion than a hot water bath (which is basically au-bain-marie). Putting the solution on top of a running wash machine does the trick quite good.

Emulsions can certainly be a problem with A/B extractions, but can easily be handled. SWIM does not have problems with emulsions. To reduce emulsions make sure your liquid is filtered well and not syruppy or snotty, the goal is for a low viscosity solution. When mixing your solution, it also helps to roll the container end over end or rock back and fourth, rather than violently shaking it. To get rid of an emulsion, a very hot water bath is used. Not quite boiling, but giving off steam, and remains lightly heating on a hot plate or stove. Like Poekus said, vibration also works well from a wash machine.

I would not set myself onto extracting anything if I was in a hurry.. Specially not mescaline.

I`d cut fresh cactus into smaller pieces, freeze and thaw it, and do 4x pressure cooker runs with a bit of vinegar or lemon juice added to the water, each run for maybe 30 mins long. If possible I`d do another cycle of freeze and thaw before the last pressure cooking, to make sure the cells have properly broken down and that im not leaving any significant amount of mescaline behind.

Filter well with funnel and cotton plug before reducing it.

Check the FAQ for tips on clearing emulsions, basically hot water bath, adding salt, and adding more lye, all will help reducing or clearing emulsions. As for hot water bath, its also written in the FAQ how to do it.... Basically you boil or near-boil some water, turn fire off, and then submerge the bottom of the extraction container in the hot water

Thanks for this Poekus. I've been reading about people speaking highly of the STB tek, I see some teks for stb in the DMT forum, are these the same for Mescaline? I assume it's really just about skipping a certain early stage in the process and going, "straight to Base"? Would this be skipping say, steps 1 and 2 from Kash's tek and going right from PC pulls to filtering then basing?

@Endlessness - FAQ would probably be a good place to start. oops. A far as pressure cooker water and pressure amounts. Should I shoot for a specific amount of water for each cook? 15psi? Ill be doing 4 12 inch cuts at a time.

@ Kash - thanks for the tip, it seems a big factor in this going well is working with clean liquid before you start to basify.

@starway6 - Sounds good. Ill do freeze thaw and then pressure cook.

Hey all,

After doing some more research on STB tek and others i've throw together a possible extraction procedure with some questions sprinkled throughout for you experienced users.

Extraction
Using 4 12' inch cuts of fresh san pedro.

1. Freeze and thaw cactus
2. 3x 30 min pressure cooker runs with a bit of vinegar added (ask about this)
3. freeze and thaw cacti again to ensure breakdown of cells walls and pressure cook one more time
4. Filter all pulls twice using cloth filter and funnel for a low viscosity solution
5. Role container even over end and rock back and forth instead of violently shaking
6. Use hot water bath to separate layers, use vibrations to encourage separation
7. Reduce down to manageable amount
8. Add to extraction vessel
Would STB be skipping these earlier steps? I would simply blend the cactus up and mix with base and water , wait a day for separation then do my np pulls? So no simmering or anything at all correct? Just straight in to the extraction vessel for basing..
9. Base this with NaOH (lye) or KOH (if I can find it)
Do I perform a ph test at this point to know how much base to use?
If I want to Dlimo for this extraction, how much should I use?
10. Add Dlimo
11. Shake vessel and wait for separation. Then shake again a few times and let sit (2hrs-ish) or more if needed until separation.
12. pull off top layer with glass turkey baster into separate container for salting
Should I repeat this step with dlimo 3-4 times? And combine all pulls before salting? or salt individually?
13. Once I have pulled all of the np could I move on to using dg’s titration and dual solvent crystallization? simple titration, and dual solvent crystalization - Preparation - Welcome to the DMT-Nexus

There is so much info to choose from, but from what I’ve read, it seems like this combination of teks might cut down on extraction times, use a safe solvent, and produce the purest crystals in the end.

So, I finally realized that the actual FAQ was in the Wiki's. I was looking in the FAQ sticky in this forum and having trouble finding what I needed. Figured out most of my previous questions.

One remains though, can one use wet cacti with the STB tek? The teks i've read all use dry source material.
