So, swim has recently been working with plant material instead of the Pharmer stuff. Swim isnt sure about the de-fatting subject regarding botainical extraction. Swim may be wrong here but he thinks to de-fat one has to raise the ph with something like HCL and then using a non polar like xylene to wash away fatts, chlorophyll, etc..Sort of like freebasing and then using h20 to rinse away the water solubles. Is this correct?

Your idea is right except you said raise the ph. You want to convert the desired product to a salt by lowering the ph with something like hcl(acid) and then using a solvent to wash the "fats" away. The product when in a salt form is soluble in water and stays out of the oils that are soluble in the solvent.
OOps thats my bad. Thanks memo. Just out of curiosity does swiMEMO know if ephedra plant material must be de-fatted? Some write ups implement it others dont...Earlier swiGODXILLA read that Hostills bark theres no need to de-fat, what about ma huang>?
