Botany Acacia and Mimosa Identification Thread

Growing logs with advice and results.
Migrated topic.
That’s a tough one CheeseCat.. I would at first have thought maidenii but the extended flower stalk doesn’t seem right. Very cool looking tree.
No worries. It's crazy how many varieties of acacia are out there. This one will have to stay in my 'UNKOWN' folder for a while longer :)

Hi everyone, I received a package a few days ago with acacia inside, can anyone identify it?

1733094876356.jpgwe have this tree in the corner of our yard that goes more like a bush than a typical tree. It appears to be an acacia. At first I thought it might be a bean 🫛 producing plant but it has yet to produce pods in the 3 years we have been here. However, this year it has spread prolifically across this area of the yard and is threatening to block access to our side gate. A few small seedlings sprouted this spring and they're already almost 10 feet tall. Another has sprung up about 10 meters away.

Zone 8-9
I'm wondering if this might be a DMT producer. 1733094959704.jpg1733094797912.jpg

Hey, I need some help with identifying this Acacia.
I took a few seeds of it. So hoping it would contain the spice

@IKilledSanta Possibly Acacia farnesiana..

@NeitherHere Not sure about yours.. looks more like Albissia julibrissin to me. Have you seen it flower?
I vaguely remember seeing it flower yellow earlier this year before it spread across the yard but I didn't pay it much mind at the time because I was preoccupied with life. At some point 3 years ago someone tried to cut it down and it threw out a bunch of branches. The branches reach upwards of 10 meters high and up to 3 meters out sprawling across the lawn during spring. The branches are thornless and maybe 10-12mm thick. Each leaf set reaches as long and wide as my hand with several small branches of narrow leaves. I don't think I've seen it drop leaves even through our harsh winter freezes at 16*f or even lower. It's rather resilient that's for sure.

But in short, I believe it flowers yellow

yeah, looks like so.
So from what I understand it does contain dmt.
Any idea what part of the tree would be best to extract? Root bark?
It needs more of a look in. There have been tentative findings of tryptamines (including 5-meo-DMT) but no one ( least on the enxus) seem to be following up on this one.. or at least not posting about it. Worthy of more research for sure, but don't be dissapointed if you don't get results.

Hmm.. well yellow flowers rules out albizzia julibrissin. There's around 160 species of Albizzia though. Were the flowers tight pom poms? Hard to say what it is without seeing in flower.

I don't recall. I vaguely remember seeing yellow all over. I have aggressive allergies so I tried to stay clear of it at the time. I'll keep an eye on it next time. Any idea when I should expect bloom? I would imagine end of spring?

Oh I see.
If so, i guess i'll just have to grow it, extract and find out myself.
Will update in the future

I believe this to be acacia farnesiana aka "huisache" as documented by local universities.
Other hits have come back as "sweet acacia"

This seedling has found its way into a crack between the curb and cement and will most likely be euthanized the next time this segment of land is cleared or will probably die from being choked by the asphalt and cement at its base. The branches are a rich purple/red and it has apx 25+mm white spines.

Any assistance would be appreciated. This is the offspring of a near by thicket. I plan on relocating this specimen closer to the thicket where it may thrive but its already over half a meter tall so i have concerns the roots are already to established to pull.

These trees are native to the area through out northern mexico and southern u.s. we see them everywhere. I believe these also have yellow pom pom shaped flowers. I was having a hard time getting clear pictures.

This is not the same subspecies I posted earlier this week.

Im wondering if anyone can shed some light on this tree, Pl@ntNet calls it a 9% chance of being a Dealbata, but thats Cat2 invasive here in Cape Town so I dont see local council planting them.
Im thinking some sort of paper bark but it doesnt have any thorns to speak off, just tiny 1cm spikes at the base of the leaves.
Its probably past the time of flowering and seed pods, guess I'll have to keep an eye out next year.

A branch that was cut off looking a bit paper barky.

The trunk at ground level, I think these were planted about 10 to 15 yrs ago.

The only thorns I could see out of all the pruned branches lying on the ground.

What caught my eye was reddish inner bark, once the tan outer was scraped, theres a green skin and then the red softer inner bark.

I came by some Acacia trees that seemed like A. Retinodes.
The leaves were mostly narrow but a few of them were a bit 1cm+ it made me suspect it to be saligna. What do you guys think

Found this guy on a friend's yard. Which one is it? Any magic in it?

Also, I can get a photo of the seed pod if needed
