Botany Acacia and Mimosa Identification Thread

Growing logs with advice and results.
Migrated topic.
Found this guy on a friend's yard. Which one is it? Any magic in it?

Also, I can get a photo of the seed pod if needed
Looks like A. Sieberiana ie Paper bark.
Seems to be 3 different sub species, var. sieberiana, var. villosa and var. woodii, which might account for why your leaves look different to mine.

Seed pods can go a long way to identify and them together with the leaves might be the area to look for dmt.
They drop the pods to the ground once ripe and the dmt is probably the energy source for the seed until its rooted.
Id gather pods and leaves once the pods start dropping.
Probably nothing of interest any other time of year.

Check the closeup of the leaves pic near the bottom of the wiki, looks like a match with your pic.

Here are the seed pods.

So you think it is worth taking the seeds and trying to extract?

Almost certainly, in my novice opinion, a paper bark of the var woodii.
The pods are sposed to smell musky, like old shoes according to one website.

One can but try, more on the pods than the seeds though.
Grind the pods fine in a mortar and pestle, probably toss in some leaves for good measure, and use apple cider vinegar to break everything down.
According to some old alchemy texts, they'd run the plant material in an alembic and after some time they'd find crystals in the bottom in vinegar solution.
Whether they plucked them out or something else is needed is beyond my knowledge at this stage.

I know from my limited tries on the inner bark that there's nothing there, or at least nothing present during Jan and Feb when I got some pruned branches.

Thanks for the information!
I'll do some more research before extracting
