Hey guys, I have a few questions about the alkaloids found in acacias.
My understanding is that the alkaloid profile of acacias varies from species to species and also within a species depending on the time of harvest and the environment etc. Obviously acacias produce a variety of desirable alkaloids that people are interested in but can acacias also produce less desirable alkaloids that exclusively have a negative effect? The reason I ask is my extraction from a floribunda tree yielded a goo that had a confused, panicky, weird sensation to it. This effect would occur immediately after inhaling the vapour and would last maybe 1 to 2 minutes and then shift into a subtle psychedelic head space. I’ve tested this extract several times and each time it’s the same disorientation followed by very faint visuals. Compared to mimosa DMT, the mimosa is much more euphoric without the crazy feeling.
Recently I decided to redissolved the extract in shellite with the hope that this would exclude any impurities or additional plant constituents. A steam bath, followed by freeze precipitation yielded a small amount of partially crystallised honey goo.
I tested the honey goo and to my surprise and delight the experience was without fault, no unpleasant come-up, no confused thoughts or disorientation, just a very dreamy and therapeutic feeling. It was brief but really beautiful.
My curiosity is, is it possible that the tree I used had alkaloids that caused a distinctly unpleasant come-up? I originally used toluene as my NPS, hoping it would provide a broader type of extract but perhaps this is why there was an unpleasant effect? Surprisingly, using shellite had the best outcome.
I also wonder if there could have been impurities in the extract (I evaporated technical grade toluene to get the original goo. I've used this method before on other trees and never had an adverse effect however).
It'd be good to hear what other people think as I'm uncertain what caused the unpleasant effect, was it plant alkaloids or solvent impurities? Regardless, I'm really happy with what I now have!
