Hey there, some guy i know tried blending up roughly 2 kilo of leaves and flowers to a fine dust-ish mix, he then made a ph 13-13.5 sodium hydroxide soup which he stirred and turned for 30 mins/1 hr, forgetting to strain the plant matter he added 10% shellite to the mix, without stirring much only gently mashing thick liquid with a stainless steel potato masher, he then decided to let sit for 30-40 mins anyway, after removing the clear shellite to fan evap in large flat glass dish, so he could continue to strain the plant matter out, he noticed the liquid crystalising? and clouding within half hour or so. While the evap was in progress, he returned to strain the remaining mix through a series of strainers and finally a cotton shirt (bad idea)?
left with more than a litre of mix, he added 10% shellite to the mix and stirred lightly in closed glass container for 20 - 30 mins, let it settle, then he noticed the shellite turning golden color, so he decided that because the clear shellite was doing so (what he thought was) well, he would add some golden juice to the clear. He soon noticed that the white crystals were dissolving and turning cloudy yellow the end result was a foul tasting diesel smelling goop with no affect. He is a total noob and would like to know if:

* Possibility that intial shellite evap may have had real crystals forming? even though sodium hydroxide mix still had all plant matter present, and may have this been better than the golden shellite(my understanding is that the more golden / dark the shellite, the more alkaloids are present)

* Why adding golden coloured shellite to evaporating clear crystal forming shellite ruined the crystals, and went all waxy - yellow diesel smelling gunk linke

* Can fats from a washed but much loved cotton shirt migrate to mix?

he said he will try this agian and leave the clear shellite to evap. and tell you how it goes.

he wanted to thank anyone who has any input, or who has tried this method and ended up with the same resutls

When working with Acacia bark (leaves even more so) defats are a must! There are a lot of oils in Acacia. An A/B is the best way to defat your plant.

There are some good Acacia teks out there, but I have honestly never heard about using the leaf. I don't have that species anywhere around me, so I can't give you any first hand experience, sorry.
