Last night I did a couple pulls from a pretty decent size batch of Mimosa using STB method with Naptha. Around 350g MHRB. It didn't turn out like I expected really. I'm thinking I probably added the MHRB (Brazillian whereas I have been using Mexican) too soon. As in, I believe I added the MHRB while the basified solution was was still too hot from the exothermic reaction created while mixing the base solution.
Anyways the final product turned out a very light tan color and I made very very sure not to get a single particle of the lye/bark/water solution into my evap dish. I didn't freeze precip at all. Straight evap. The light tan product also was a little waxy but not nearly as waxy as some of the yellow/light yellow I've pulled in the past. Could I have pulled other alkaloids or lots a oils due to the MHRB getting too hot?
This is just one more reason why I'm leaning towards smaller extractions. The only problem with doing smaller extractions for me is that I don't do them at my place. I have roommates who would frown on that a bit and I'm just trying to be respectful. So I'm only able to get over to my extraction place once every week or two and sometimes I can't spend that long over there so sometimes I gotta get a lotta work done in a minimal amount of time and with bigger extracts I net more product in that shorter time frame than I would from smaller extracts.
Don't get me wrong. It's extremely active and I like it as much, if not more than the yellow/white stuff. I'm just wondering if me adding the MHRB too soon is what creates the tan product. Any advice is greatly appreciated.
Edit: I'm probably going to re-X about half of it with Bestine. Do I need to do a sodium bicarbonate wash prior to the re-x or can I just go straight to the re-X?
