Afoaf has started the nomans Tek and is having trouble right off the bat. This is the 4th time AFOAF is doing this so you'd think he'd get it down by now:wink:. The last time afoaf did this extraction, the naptha would not come out clear... Separation occurred as usual but the layer of naphtha is cloudy... This time around, RB was used by a very reliable vendor. So the ONLY thing AFOAF did different was that he swirled it very hard. and it came out cloudy again!!! The first time he ever did this though, he came out with a very high yield of beautiful white snowflakes.

Why did it come out cloudy and is there any way to salvage this? The ONLY thing AFOAF thinks it could be besides the swirling was that the lye seemed to get moist when taken out of the bag, as it was humid out.

Also - AFOAF used two 1-gallon jars and the top layer is IMPOSSIBLE to pull out... the only options afoaf can think of is to

A)add one jar into another so the top layer is easier to obtain.
B)add more naphtha

AFOAF has been wondering what to do for three days. He could REALLY use some help

The nap layer is cloudy most likely due to it being Saturated with DMT.
(or worst case a suspension of micro particles of the mix)
Just freeze it and see...you can always put it back in the jar if its not....

If you are having trouble pulling...
Suck it out and put it in a tall thin container (with a bit of lye/mix) and let it settle again...it will be much easier to retrieve...

Adding more nap will just dilute the already saturated layer.

this white cloudyness is just high dmt content, but what you really need to do with the juggs is pour it as slowly as possible into a beaker or glass cup of some kind and then pour off the naphtha from that, or even better, use a syringe to pull the naphtha from the black shit in the cup.

if your naphtha has a real dark tinge like its contaminated by oils in the bark, you can do a Sodium Carbonate or SC Wash (nexus wiki) to increase purity.

The only concern now is when afoaf tried to pour out the nap, only the basified solution would pour out because the nap would float to the other side when tilting it.... Should AFOAF suck it up with a turkey baster

You need to 'pull' it out with a turkey baster...not pour it! Dont clean it ...just put it in a glass dish and stick it in the freezer over night.

As for a separation beaker....just use a drinks glass or a tall shot glass

Sounds like you need to do a bit more reading as well..

Goodness... cloudy naphtha usually means that it is supersaturated with dmt. You should be able to suck that out with a baster and either evap for a nice yield or freezer precipitate for a slightly cleaner yield.

I agree though. You should probably do some mor reading because a few of these questions are a little...well... ridiculous...

Even the slightest amount of research/reading would have answered most of this. Not to mention you said this is the 4th time you've done it?

I have full faith in your abilities to solve your problems here, bud! But you gotta put atleast a little effort into it!

never put uncovered xtals or open naptha in your fridge/freeze. it can contaminate the food. just dry the crystals in open air for a day, perhaps scape it in a few hours when it looks dry and then spread it over the tray and let it dry further before repeat scrapes, then collect

when the crystals were forming you had the dish covered with plastic wrap? there is also a good way to make sure you get no losses, the naptha you pour off can be evaporated fully outside just to make sure there was no dmt left in it.

This. Besides contaminating food by putting open/vented containers in the freezer, there is no need to put it back into the freezer once you poured the naphtha off.

This is where I'm unclear though. Are you asking if you should put the naphtha that was poured off back into the freezer or the original container? After draining your solution from your container just tilt it upside down and leave it for a little while. Any residual naphtha will dry from your crystals quickly and then you just scrape and harvest the dried product. Placing the left over naphtha you poured off in the freezer will not yield much if anything. Just set it somewhere room temperature and let it evaporate to recover any product that may be left in your solvent.
