Alkaloids in Acacia branches?? Help please

Migrated topic.

Hi everyone,

I am having some problems finding Acacia bark. I think that the trees are too young and removing the bark would harm/damage them.

There were alot of dead branches though. Will the branches contain any alkaloids?? Should I try an extraction??

Thanks

It REALLY depends on what Species of Acacia you are using. Be mindful that some species contain toxins! If you can help it, aim for Acacia Obtusifolia. If the Acacia you want to use is a known species used for extractions, then you should be able to use the bark from dead branches. In fact, many would rather people use the dead branches then hurting the tree.

Hope this helps.

Hey Drake,
Thanks for replying.
I think I have found A. Obtusifolia. Will use the smaller dead branches that are mostly bark.
Fingers crossed.

I don't see any pictures? If you need an I.D, you could post a topic on The Corroboree

Or check out the site World Wide Wattle. There should be people you can contact from there to get you a 100% I.D. Just be sure to have decent photos.

Although, be more discreet on The Corroboree. They dislike people who incriminate themselves.
