Hi, I wanted to share some thing I've learnt concerning Harmala .
I have been doing a bit of the old "Kitchen Chemistry" recently. Extracting from Rue seeds.
Last time I extracted 9 grams of Harmala Alkaloids and went on to make lots of Changas and enjoying the hell out of them .
I thought that was it, i'd nailed it, Changa.
I was wrong.
Recently I extracted 17 grams Harmala Alks from 500g Rue seeds.
Only this time I did a lot more filtering and im not talking about filtering at the beinning, the reducing stages.
Im talking about at the Manske stages or just after.
Filtering the hot dissolved alks/vinegar.
I did the Manske and base stages 3 times. Each time with multiple filtering sessions, using double layered coffee filters, to produce a purer , lighter in colour Harmala.
So I made some Passion Flower Changa to test my new Harmala , expecting the same results as previous.
Shocked is an understatement.
This Changa is so much more potent and the effects last allot longer, at least 3 times as long as previous Changas.
All because its a purer Harmala.
Worlds apart from 10 x Caapi Changa, which in my opinion just weakens the DMT.
The question is, what do I do with all my old Changas?
No you cant have it :lol:

I know you said 3x longer, but how long actual time are you talking? Thanks for sharing this information.

I don't use Changa for breaking through.
I use my GVG for breaking through. (bare in mind im no expert..yet)
I use Changa with Mullein in rizla for sub break through experiences. Although I've had entity contact and some excellent experiences smoking this way.
GVG breakthroughs are a very special thing for me and only occur every few months when everything is set in place, and always done outdoors.
Changa I do every weekend and some week days, if I feel I need a mental reset :roll: .
So the effects im talking about are mainly visual, enhanced colours, static screen savers that start moving, carpet turning liquidy , clear train of thought. These sort of effects.
So from smoking half of a 100mg Changa joint and having effects for about 10 mins, now I can take just 3 tokes, held in, on the same quantity and have effect for 30 mins.
I had 3 tokes 35 mins ago and I can still feel it..

You could soak the changa in warm naphtha (or another solvent in which DMT is readily soluble, but harmala alkaloids are not) to salvage the DMT, then dry the plant matter and soak it in warm ethanol (or other solvent in which harmala alkaloids are highly soluble) to salvage the harmala alkaloids. You could then evaporate the naphtha to recover the DMT, and evaporate the ethanol separately to recover the harmalas for additional clean-up. After that you could probably even dry the plant matter and reuse it for future batches.

I have 4 old batches of Changas
I had an idea of giving them 24 hours in the freezer and then grinding them all up together in a herb grinder. To have a mish mash of finely ground Changa.
I wouldn't bother extracting the spice from them because I have too much spice as it is and I keep it all between a few friends and family members.
I feel that spice is a secret I wanna keep.

Here's what I recently did with a bunch of changas I had laying around, made up from different herbs, different amounts of dmt and harmalas. After weighing the changas and guesstimating the total amount of dmt and harmalas it contained, I calculated the amount of other herbs I wanted to add, the amount of dmt I wanted to add and the harmalas I wanted to add.

Then I dissolved the (freebase) harmalas in hot methanol. This takes a little time to fully dissolve, even using a hotplate and a stirbar. Next, I added the dmt to the methanol. This dissolves almost immediately. Then I added the changas and the additional herbs. The amount of methanol was such, that it just covered all the herb material.

I then heated the mix and distilled off the methanol, while stirring with a magnetic stirbar. When the methanol had almost completely distilled off, I took the flask with the mix outside and dumped the contents into a chalice, to let most of the remaining methanol evaporate off. I stirred the mix a few times, to get the best mixing of the remaing liquid into the herbs.

Finally, the changa was dried for 30 minutes in an electric oven at 100 C with the door slightly ajar. I dry my changa since I noticed that wet haramala freebase easily forms the carbonate salt from atmospheric CO2.

As you can read above, I own a nice chemical glassware set, that really helps here. I would be more careful with methanol if I didn't (methanol is seriously poisonous). But I do and methanol is the best solvent for freebase harmala that I know of. If you don't have proper equipment, you may be better off using ethanol. You'll risk becoming stupid instead of blind .

If you cannot recondense alcohol vapors in a distillation rig, do the evaporation outside, and only use a waterbath if you want to speed things up. Ethanol is less poisonous than methanol, but still very flammable. Burning down your house is bad enough, having your burnt down house qualified as a drugs lab in the local newspaper is a lot worse.

Another point I want to add, is that for this particular changa, I added a special batch of haramalas that I had made by only doing base precipitations and no Manske-style saltings. The idea being, that I would keep the maximum amount of vasicine and related alkaloids. As of lately, I have been reading about their effects on the respiratory system and I am curious to explore their benefits in a smoking mix.

I gave my mother a tincture of hash oil when she was suffering from debilitating neuropathic back pain. I seriously added to her recovery, but when she told her friends about it afterwards, they were really shocked

A would love for my parents to have a good mushroom experience, but it is probably not going to happen in their lifetime.

So why not just hang onto it and never have to do another extraction again?

Extract EIGHT grams at a time and vape every few months? That is a huge amount to be sat around it makes no sense.
Passionflower has MAOI properties too that may have added to the potency.

I do use it.. If I have 8 grams ,I will use say 6 grams for Changa and save 2 grams for vaping...
Or on my next extraction I'll add the old dmt to the wash...
I probably extract every 3 or 4 months....
I admit,I have too much Changa. .. Better to much than too less (bad English) ;-)
