Hi, I found some Amanita muscaria and some Amanita pantherina. I already knew a bit about muscaria, and I had actually gone looking for it. But I also found some pantherina. From what I’ve researched, pantherina can produce similar effects, but it’s a more potent mushroom.

I wanted to try the muscaria right away, so I dried a few caps and consumed them. Honestly, it was a nice experience, and I didn’t feel anything unpleasant. It felt like I had no body weight, and I could barely feel anything. I had a friend with me, and we kept telling each other, “I feel really weird.” We had a good time. We didn’t see any of the little creatures people talk about, but we did experience some mild visual effects. It was a good experience for both of us.

I felt very light and wanted to lie down for a while, and I ended up falling asleep. I woke up in the morning feeling very well-rested.

Now I’m researching pantherina and thinking about trying it. What do you recommend? Do you think I should dry it and eat it, or should I make a tea with it

Mostly make sure your ID is correct. pantherina have deadly look alikes so make sure you can tell the difference. Happy & safe foraging! And I liked making teas out of muscaria personally

Here's an AI search
To distinguish Amanita pantherina from deadly look-alikes, focus on the basal structure and flesh reaction, as visual similarities often mask lethal differences.

Key Identification Features

  • Cap: 5–12 cm wide, brown to grey-brown with distinct pure white warts (veil remnants). The cap is sticky when wet and may flatten with age.
  • Stem Base: The most critical identifier is a bulbous base with a distinct, sharply-rimmed collar or gutter. Unlike deadly species, it lacks a full sac-like volva.
  • Flesh: Pure white and does not change color when cut or bruised.
  • Gills: White, free from the stem, and crowded.
  • Ring: A fragile, skirt-like ring (annulus) is present on the upper stem.
Distinguishing from Deadly Look-alikes

  • vs. Death Cap (Amanita phalloides): The Death Cap has a sac-like membranous volva at the base and often a greenish or yellowish cap. It contains amatoxins that cause liver failure. A. pantherina has a ringed bulb and a brown cap.
  • vs. Destroying Angels (Amanita virosa / A. bisporigera): These are pure white and lack the brown cap and white warts of A. pantherina. They also possess a full sac-like volva.
  • vs. Edible Look-alikes:
    • Blusher (Amanita rubescens): Edible when cooked, but bruises pink/red when damaged. It lacks the rimmed bulb of A. pantherina.
    • False Panther Cap (Amanita excelsa): Has grey veil remnants (not pure white) and lacks the distinct volval gutter.

Panterinas are several times more potent and are slightly different than Muscaria from my experience.
They don't have nausea side-effects or "down" effect for me, but rather are energetic and euphoric.
Doses of 1g dry was enough to feel effects in a good "recreational" way, 2g is already high dose for some. 3g is borderline for me, I wouldn't risk more :)
To achieve the same with Muscarias, I'd need at least 3-4 times more.

I can partly confirm this. With Pantherinas I had also way less nausea side effects, Probably of a lower Ibotenic acid content.
But In my personal expirience they pressed way more chill down than the muscaria.
I actually prefer them.
The ones i got from latvia last year season where also about 3-4 timee stronger than muscarias from the same source.
I have not found wild ones yet around home, but plenty of muscaria this year. One Pantherina tourned out to be a Amanita rubescens.

A tea is probably best.
DIY harvested and freh dried Muscsrias i prefer to cook them 20 minuits, and then just drinking the liquid.
But I also snacked plenty of top quality dried and raw bought panterina caps last year.
yeah 1-3g sounds about right without tolerance, you can also start with 0,5 and work your way up.

Boiling my diy harvested also becase my stuff often has lower quality with some worms and shit. Thats why I directly -18°C freeze the harvest after a short maybe 24hrs @ 45°C drying period of sliced caps and stems. Crusing and mixing the dried before freezing.

This way I already got 350g dried and frozen this season.
Taking a longer break now, bc tolerance for me personally tends to buld up extremly fast if you have plenty !
