Ammonium hydroxide vs. Sodium hydroxide - what is better?

For the final extraction step (transform alkaloids to free base, see STEP 8: Erowid DMT Vaults : Extraction : QT's DMT Extraction Guide ) Ammonium hydroxide or Sodium hydroxide (NaOH) can be used interchangeably.

My concern is that NaOH may not evaporate but remain as salt in the DMT crystals, and it would be toxic to inhale it. Is this true?
Besides, Red Devil drain cleaner is not available for purchase anymore.

that's like asking what's better, lemons or limes

do you know what temp NaOH vaporizes at?
it's well above that of DMT. if one separates the nonpolar phase from the basic aqueous phase, one wouldn't even need to worry about NaOH in the product.

and you'e not supposed to evaporate the basic aqueous phase
