Every summer since 1972, the Annual Rainbow Gatherings have attracted tens of thousands of people to a different United States National Forest... These Rainbow Gatherings culminate with an elaborate and graceful silent prayer for World Peace on the Fourth of July.

The Annual Rainbow Gatherings attract all different kinds of people, all for different reasons, from all different places despite intense pressure from Federal Law Enforcement who attempt to prohibit these peaceful assemblages. All of the magic happens through the volunteer efforts of individuals without any formal organization or leaders and without anyone buying a ticket or being paid for their labor

The event coordinators are considering the follow places for this years event: New Hampshire, Vermont, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Tennessee, North Carolina or Kentucky. With the event still being months away, there is still no solid announcement to it's location. The date is set for July 1st - July 7th.

Recently in Hyperspace chat, talk of the Rainbow Gathering has increased, and even though it is still a ways away, I thought it would be nice to have a thread to constantly update for the coming months on Nexus members who are going (Or even considering) to this astonishing event. If you are even thinking of going, post and say so. Give a little info such as, "I will 100% be there" to "I want to, but might not be able to".

I realize since a location has yet to be chosen, and since it is still a long few months away, most everyone will not be able to tell if they can go or not. Some of us, are going to try to make the effort to join the gathering no matter where it is being held.

A little advice for newcomers such as myself looking into this: Based upon Nexian accounts with this event, there are law enforcement agencies present and thus caution should always be taken in the events you choose to participate in during the Rainbow Gathering. Consider this in your choice of whether to go or not. Generally the gatherers will try to look out for each other and signal when to stop and put away that nice glass pipe of yours.

Know now that it doesn't always go well for gatherers.

Some interesting videos to watch:
- Known as "Jessica's Video" - A woman and her boyfriend encounter abusive police
- News Coverage concentrating on drugs and nothing else, but none-the-less interviewing gatherers about the police presence
- Trailer for a Rainbow Gathering Documentary. Recommend watching. (Link is only the trailer)

Gatherings have occurred all around the world:

I wish so much to attend... But I can't, as I have "drugs" on my criminal record and then the US authorities won't let me in. Yay for the current legal standards in the world. I do however wish the attendees all the best!

Damn, thats fucked up that the won't let you in the US.

I hope to go, it would be awesome!! Though it'll be hard to find friends that are down to actually go.

Not going, though I enjoy festivals. There seems to be a lot of negativity associated with the Rainbow scene, not just what the media reports. A good number of molesters, alcoholics, and predator sorts seem to go with that scene; a lot of people I've talked to have gotten the same impression. And now, seeing how the police have abused festival goers, I'm even less likely to go. There are some really nice smaller festivals all over the country; it seems to me that these bigger and longer-lasting festivals or gatherings - Rainbow Gathering, Burning Man, Bonnaroo, etc. - tend to attract too many shady elements (including cops) for me to feel safe. Just my 2 cents. Still, a good festival can be so rejuvenating and refreshing.

Unfortunately my clearest memory of a Vermont regional rainbow gathering is that of my drying socks stolen off the tree, and a seriously overflowed outhouse on the way in...

It's definitely a nice idea; but altogether a little work can be done to shed the acquired riffraff attendees...

If people are stealing my underwear, I'm out-of-here...

What is it with Norwegians not being allowed into the US? Must be the whole Black Metal thing, haha!

Nothing to do with me being Norwegian, the US does not provide a visum to anyone that have a criminal record. I believe I have to wait 5 years to be allowed, or was it perhaps 3...

If it's North Carolina I'll definitely be there, I've been wanting to check out one of these things since I met a GDF man in jail in South Carolina (after being illegally searched and arrested for possession of 6 grams of cannabis) and he told me about this event. I had never heard anything about this and had only discovered Terence McKenna about 4 months prior to meeting this homeless, hippy, hitchhiker (talk about eye-opening experiences  ). If it's anywhere else (aside from maybe Tennessee) I probably won't be there. But, if it is in NC I feel like I have to check it out. Who knows, mebbe we can have a Nexus shindig at my place afterwards 😉

I for one would much rather have any gathering in a country other then the USA. That goes for nexus or otherwise.
Just putting it out there, could try a more tolerant open-minded and less draconian place then the USA.

Thanks! I'm almost certainly not going to attend. I have some fuzzy, but good memories of a Rainbow in Vermont about 25 years ago, but those days are long past for me. I am curious where this years will be held, though. Do you know?

I'm already packed and just need to tie up a few loose ends before I head out.

I've gotta pretty pimpin VW bus with a little bit of extra room..

Any nexians interested in riding with? I could use a hand with gas money...

I'll be leaving Florida on Sunday evening. (I prefer to do the most driving at night since it's cooler and easier on the air cooled engine)

So to those who went how'd it go? Sounds like potentially a fantastic time but again, but between the Forest Disservice and the Undesirables I'll find some smaller gatherings.
