Any Artists using Harmalas in their paint?

There are a lot of artists on the Nexus so I was wondering if anyone was using any harmalas in their paints? Could be really cool under the right lighting.

Thanks jamie. I do not really use paint for my art. I'd love to hear of others experiences and usage of harmalas in their art. I'm starting to get inspired to create some harmala paint and find some cool uses for it.
 
I also had a similar idea some weeks ago.
I was watching the rue tea under black light, all hands and kitchen was a mess, not visible under normal light.
So, I thought, why not paint the body with it? Would be nice when going dancing.
...or maybe it's just a waste of good stuff.

I think harmalas are irritating on the skin of some people but you could try it out in a small spot and see :)

Dont different harmalas glow differently? So you have different natural colors

Yu could also paint yourself with LSD too, but THAT would be a waste of good material :D (and it would break down quite fast :p )
 
I make my own paint.

Traditionaly, an organic material such as egg yolk, cassien or vegetable oil is used as the binder.

Organic materials tend to not work so well as pigment source, all colors turn brown. Mineral pigments, organic binder.

The flourescent-ness of harmalas could be an exception, for all I know.



D-limonene that has already been used for multiple extractions makes an excellent alternative to turpentine, for oil painting. AND you get to call your work "psychedelic art" knowing full well that there's a bit of dmt in there.

"It's trippier than it looks".

Having said that, it makes a whole LOT of sense to see if that trippiness can be potentiated with harmalas. It just makes sense.

Harmine is for use as a coloring additive which fluoresces in UV light. When highly diluted, harmine is nearly colorless but still fluoresces brightly in black light. Harmine is great for creating fluorescent water colors used in black light art projects. For use as a fluorescent coloring additive dissolve 200 mg completely in 10 ml or more of warm vinegar prior. If not dilute enough, fluorescence is hindered. Once diluted, it may be adding to water based paints, water based inks, etc. Harmine may also be used as a fluorescent pH indicator (as the pH increases the fluorescence of harmine decreases).

So it works with watercolor....how does it stay glowy?
 
I've always made paint myself using pigments and casein or egg yolk.

Harmalas should look great under UV, like fluorescein... interesting idea!

The opposite is interesting, as a teenager I made a few white-on-white paintings: painting with non-fluorescent white paint on fluorescent white paper. In ordinary light you saw nothing, under UV blacklight it came to life, the white paint dark on a light background!
