this is not a request. i am asking because i don't think i am ready to do it by myself and i would like to know if there are more experienced members who have had experience with guiding a newbie through the process?


edit: i am sorry if this sort of discussion is frowned on. there seems to be a strong attitude of do it yourself around here, but i don't know that i am able or ready to do it without help. i am also sorry if this comes too close to the line about not buying or selling. i am not trying to do that, but i am just confused as to how this works otherwise. can someone please tell me what i am doing?

There are many people in the nexus that have guided less experienced psychonauts or first timers I am sure. I know I have.

Ultimately it comes down to you and what you want to learn from psychedelics. You get what you put into it. If you want to learn as much as you can about yourself from these profound altered states, then you should learn as much about psychedelics prior to ingesting them.

Tell us what your concerns are. Expand on what it is that you would like help with.
 
Personally, i'd be happy to, but havn't gotten any requests. Most people i talk to are scared or believe they would not benefit.

the making of the dmt is very intimidating to start with. i think i could learn it in time, but i am scared of working with harsh chemicals and afraid that if i do it incorrectly, i could end up smoking something very harmful.

secondly, i have no prior experience with psychedelics. i am not sure what to expect, and it would be reassuring to meet with someone who is confident and can show me things that i didn't know i didn't know.

thirdly, i think it would be more psychologically comforting to be with someone while i do it. i am a loner in my everyday life, and that's one of the things i hope to learn more about from psychedellics, but for such an important event i don't want to have any areas of mental weakness including social weakness.

Allow your new interest in psychedelics to motivate you to find some friends with common interests. Start talking about your interest in psychedelics with people that you feel may be receptive. Put yourself out there and I think you will find that it is not social weakness but that you are socially selective.

Mental weakness is a state of mind. Don't apply words like weak to yourself. Instead concentrate on your strengths. Start building yourself up now. Many brilliant minds have been socially awkward and loners. Do not let the thought enter your head that you are weak because of how you are. You are unique for a reason. Only you can give the gift that is you to people. To share your gifts you must feel safe first. Ok with yourself. Don't worry about what other people think about you my friend. Be around people who naturally like you. Go and find the people you like naturally.

Your new interest in psychedelics is psychedelic in its own right. The curious mind expanding and wanting to know more. Pay attention. What do I expect it will show me? How can I get the most out of it? Look at this new interest as an opportunity to grow personally and socially.
 
thank you for your encouraging words. i have a lot of trouble connecting with people, but i know i need to try. ideally i will find someone who is already in my life who will have some experience. i live in a small kansas town so i'm not confident, but i would love to be surprised.
 
You sound very much like me and in the place I was a few months ago. Building relationships is hard for me and I had no experience with any drugs of any kind but I felt it was something I wanted to try to help me.

Follow the guidelines about set and setting and really think about it in some detail besides that it is very hard to prepare by expecting what will happen. I did not do this in enough detail for my first try. Besides the obvious, think very long and hard about where you are happiest and most comfortable in a very primal way. For me, DMT takes me quickly to a very childlike state so I think about what will make me feel safest and most comforted. I have daylight around, a duvet over me. I have found music is important in the early stages to be able to serve as a reference point ad anchor. The loss of references to reality is when my mind can have trouble until the DMT takes it all over.

I don’t think it is possible to predict how anyone will react to a DMT trip at all, everyone’s mind handles things differently, I do feel that people very controlled and grounded firmly in reality will have a harder time though because it WILL take you where it wants and if the mind fights it it only makes it harder. I’m sure some disagree but personally the bigger experiences have been easier - one the substance take over you are a passenger on the journey and the mind just has no way fight it anymore. With bigger experience this happens quick quickly and the ‘ride’ up to that point when my mind it still trying to cling on or worry is minimised. This is with oral DMT and 4hr experiences though.

While a sitter is obviously a good thing from a pure safety standpoint, as someone who has trouble feeling comfortable around others and building relationships, I think there would be 1 possibly 2 people that I would have felt comfortable enough with to be helpful and not stress me out more in a DMT trip.

With extractions I have found the teks to be a bit light on the details in places but using the the search here to get my questions answered I did fine with a complex tek. There is an extraction help thread too so you are not left at sea. The process is actually much easier than it is made to sound when you do it and quite hard to really screw up - if you can cook something simple you can extract DMT.

Have the right reasons for doing it, read and research, heed good advice but at some point you do have to jump in. There is no way to plan and control the experience.

thank you. i think the more i read, the more confident i become, so i will continue reading more until i feel like i am ready. you raise a good point about setting and such. maybe a sitter who i am not comfortable with would be more of a bad thing. i feel a lot better now, thank you.
 
If you want to get familiar with glass jars and working with plants, you might start doing syrian rue seeds. You could start making just a tea of it, awful taste but it works. Then you might start making some extract of it, first crude extract, later manske (salt) fine tuning on harmine-harmaline. Wiki of this site has what you need.

Then you have indication if you're up to something more elaborate like spice. If making rue extract fails, I'd suggest to straight that out first.

With rue, you can use alone, upping dose can get pretty wild. Always start low!
You can use it to potentiate shrooms, cacti, and combine with weed. Just beware of MAOI effects, mind your food pattern.

If you go further down the road making spice, your rue is there for pharma and changa.

Just some thoughts.

This is good advice (actually there is a lot of good advice in this thread). My first extraction was using 69ron's d-limonene mescaline extraction on san pedro cactus. This is a food safe extraction meaning that there are not any volatile chemicals used. I too was nervous about using harsher chemicals at first but when I took the time to understand what was happening, I regained faith in my ability to comprehend and perform the task at hand. So after practicing food safe extractions I eventually moved onto the teks using less friendly chemicals and am now confident in my ability to perform these teks.

The reason I bring this up is because mescaline tends to be a more forgiving psychedelic. A little gentler in nature than some of the others. Don't get me wrong, you can absolutely go deep with mesc but it generally has a loving vibe. It also tends to last all day so that could be a pro or a con depending on what you are looking for.

Low doses of mushrooms are another good place to start (starting with ~1g and then increasing dosage with each new journey as you see fit). To paraphrase Terence a bit, "Mushrooms love you and want to show you things..." As for what to expect? Expect nothing. Easier said than done, but when you leave your expectations at the door, you open yourself up and allow the psychedelics to do their job.

When you do decide to take a psychedelic make sure your set and setting are solid. When this is overlooked it can be the catalyst for a difficult or even a terrifying trip. This is not meant to scare you, but psychedelics are no joke and should always be approached with respect.

I recently tried ayahuasca (my first psychedelic ever) for the first time. I was very anxious and somewhat afraid going into this “uncharted territory”. After experiencing it a few times all I can say – A guide is as useful as a new pair of pants – nice to have – but really not necessary. On the other hand, a new pair of pants might be handy as you might shit yourself.

My few cents on the matter
If you concerned (afraid etc) take a low dose. Repeat the low dose until you find courage to go deeper. Bare in mind, Ayahuasca is a guide and once you meet it – you will obtain the comfort and security you are looking for. Put on some happy- comforting music if you find the silence uncomfortable.

There is a quote from the gospel of Tomas I found very pleasing as regard to ayahuasca.
