Hi, I've searched the nexus for the answers to the following questions but haven't found anything concrete. If you know of a previous post that deals with one or more of these questions please kindly call me lazy and post the link :)

Question time.
1. Is Pau D'arco a MAOI?
2. Is it a decent idea to make changa out of Pau D'arco without mixing it with some other herb (I.E. Caapi or Chaliponga)
3. I've had around 5-6 trips so far, and while they've all been amazing only one of them was "deep." Most of them seem to be music videos of whatever I might be listening to (usually psy-trance). I'm not complaining because the visuals are breathtaking, I was just wondering how to go deeper.
4. Does music have that big of an effect on tripping?
5. Emulsion is the devil, this isn't a question, rather a statement of fact.

1. I have never seen any mention of Pau D'arco containing an MAOI. A discussion a while back got contentious over whether PD has any actives at all in it, or if it were completely placebo.
2. SWIM very much enjoyed her Pau D'arco enhanced leaf. She had shredded back and noticed it took more heat to get going compared to other leaf blends, but a distinct and kind character in itself.
3. Try to turn off music and lower lights as far as you can while still able to operate. Experiment a bit with getting as much in on the first hit as you can, and holding in, then going for the second and third; then try just a little on the first hit, and going huge with the follow-ups. Different people seem to work better with different techniques.
4. SWIM never actually tried listening to music until the come down. Any external distraction tends to prevent her from releasing into hyperspace.
5. Yes. Rock salt or kosher salt are your friends.

Thanks, I'll definitely try no music next time. Putting on psy-trance when I take dmt has become part of my ritual, so I guess that's why I haven't tried to go without it yet. Pau D'arco being a placebo, that's definitely interesting, I guess I'm going to find out. I had another question, but forgot to post it...When people are talking about changa they always mention cones. What are cones exactly?

I used to listen to music, as with other psychedelics, but found it to be distracting when going deeper. The structure of hyperspace being incompatible with this one, music can seem only gibberish with none of its usually discernable patterns. It can be quite irritating.

Cones, as in the cone of herb formed when packing a bowl. :)

1. No pau d'arco is not an maoi
2. If all you have is pau d'arco hell ya enhance that stuff. My first enhanced leaf was pau d'darco/mullein and it was great.
3. Anything audio, visual, or physical can influence you and keep you tied to this world. Enough spice though and it doesn't matter if someone is dancing on your head you will be flying oblivous to the fact..
4. Yes to an extent. It is nice to watcch the flow of visions that accompany a good psy song.
5. As for emulsions swim hasn't really had to deal with a bad one. Gentle swirling/extraction method can go a long way.

P.s. as far as pau d'arco goes swim doesn't make a blend without it. Hope that helps

Why is Pau D'arco used again? I have never noticed any difference with it, but it makes an okay tea...
Have you ever enhanced pau d'arco 1:1 ? I have and definitly noticed a pleasurable addition to the experience. Even though its not an maoi it seemed to really increase the length of the afterglow also.

Nope, I've only used it in about 25-35% of the herbal mix. I guess I should try 1:1 with DMT! I can totally dig the possibility that Pau D'arco may do something even if no active substances have been identified, as otherwise more or less inactive herbs may give a good addition to effects of DMT and caapi. What I don't understand, is that I have yet to see any explanation of the effects of Pau D'arco, maybe except what seems to be a longer afterglow.

I can totally understand that it is not easy to describe in words, but even herbs like Calea and lotus I have seen described with words I can agree on. I have never seen anyone really describe what Pau D'arco adds to the experience. This, combined with my experience of Pau D'arco, leads me to believe that it is placebo at work. No to dismiss placebo, it is among the most powerful drugs out there!

Well, perhaps I should try to make a mix with only Pau D'arco and DMT before jumping to conclusions. What would that be called? It's not changa as it isn't caapi, and not enhanced leaf as Pau D'arco is bark, not leaves. Enhanced bark? Pau DMT? Bark changa? I don't know...

here its described as "rich and exuberant meadows of pleasure" I couldn't agree with it more. Its possible that reading that may have planted the placebo in my head but regardless it was doing something to me lol. It also states in that thread its good to try 1:1 mixes with each herb individually. I havnt tried them all alone yet but it definitly something cool to try.

Rich and exuberant meadows of pleasure sounds about right. It may very well be placebo, but pau d'arco is one of my favorites. Though it is a bit woody for my smoking pleasure.
I plan on trying what BananaForeskin did and try an extract. I would very much enjoy leaving pointy changa behind. :)

I've had various experiences with music and psychedelics, but the one the stands out most in my head is with salvia where I feel like it does take me deeper. The completely dissociative experience becomes even moreso when the music is actually directing my visual hallucinations in a form of synesthesia to the point where I can no longer tell the difference between the music and anything else. It comes to the point where I can no longer distinguish the music from internal thought or the fact that the music is in fact music, and seems to be simply part of existence. It's kinda hard for me to explain.
