Hi I'm new to the forum had a few questions involving ayahuasca. The most important really is involving the purge, how serious is it and does it involve lots of vomitting. I ask because I have a stomach illness that causes vommiting (cyclic vommiting syndrome) and was wondering about the safety of it. If the purge is exaggeratted then I may have intrest in trying but if there is vommiting involved I will play it safe and stick to vaping dmt. Vaping it has actually made me feel completely better while sick as when you get back to earth its like starting the day anew. Also how is the intensity and length compared to vaping dmt, I've read it lasts hours and though I love hard vape trips if it is of equal intinsity I may lack the mental conditioning to last hours. Thanks in advance for any insight.

Well id say, 9 out of ten times there will be some purging involved, somtimes out the mouth and somtimes out the other end:) But generaly, yes do expect to purge.

Length and intensity can vary, one needs to find what works with their body best, this mioght take a few sessions to get your sweetspot. One could have full breakthroughs with aya, so yes the intesity factor could be there.

I have no knowledge of medical conditions, but what I can say is, you could consult your GP about drinking Caapi tea, if you dont want to go the the GP, then trust your gut instinct, and stick to vaping DMT. You could take some sublingual harmalas and then vape the spice or make some changa, but I suppose the puke factor is always there.

Hope that hepls.

Just interjecting a couple things on the purge:

A FOAF who is experienced in aya had very good success with smoking small amounts of MJ around 20 minutes after consuming the fluid. The FOAF claims to never have purged once when doing so, but while having his most intense/personal experiences in this fashion. The FOAF suspects it's the antimimetic properties of the herb.

Of course whether you're standing, sitting, or lying down, nausea can develop or disappear based on your body position too.

Other tips to limit purging:
- Reduce liquid to a very small level (less than a 1/2 cup)
- A few Datura Stramonium seeds (1-5) helps
- Ginger
- Not eating 5+ hours beforehand
- Lying down in a comfortable position.

But anyways, definitely consult a medical professional before attempting anything.

It's personal. I hardly ever have to puke and i only have it when syrian rue is involved, or mimosa extracted with hot water.

I think with pure harmala's the chance of vomiting is definately a lot smaller.

If this syndrome you mention, than it seems chances of puking are high.

Maybe encapsulated (nearly) pure alkaloids would be the best thing for you.

I would start low with brews at only about 10g of caapi only with no DMT...even if you cant stomach large brews with light added, ayahuasca is ayahuasca..weather its 10g of vine onl or 50g of vine with light..you will still gain the benifit of caapi, and can vape DMT with it if you want to..or slowly work your way up into a larger dose.

I dont purge often at all with ayahuaca..maybe 1 in 10 times I have gotten to that point..which is frustrating because I want to purge. I have these amazing experiences with ayahuasca..I just dont get much more sick than some stomach discomfort..and its never been on a level more worse than a mushroom tea.

I have to make a brew specially for purging. My general brew I drink with others is white caapi that has been filtered and fridge decanted to remove the component which seems to cause the most nausea at a low dose i.e. 50g per person.

However, if I use 100g and don't filter, there's going to be a purge.

I've also found that if I add tobaco to my 20x changa, I can have a very strong purge akin to ayahuasca. But I also find there are two different kinds of vomiting with ayahuasca. The first being the unsettled stomach after the initial consumption. This to me is a bad purge. Especially as I spend up to 12 hours cooking up the brew, to purge at this stage is a "No no". This is why I will always filter and fridge decant my brew for at least 1 week, The second and to me the correct purging nausea, comes as a signal from the brain and is felt throughout the whole body, usually with a large dose of caapi or when a lot of DMT is consumed and is a much more voluntary vomiting that can be intensified at will. The good stuff :) It certainly is a very important part of the healing aspect of the brew.

The first time I brewed ayahuasca, I vomited within 10 minutes and didn't trip anything. The second time, I took so many precautions to prevent vomiting that I ended up not being able to until the very end of my experience which lasted for 8 hours of bizarre tripping. I find the nausea to be highly negative, but the purging itself to be not only relieving, but when done, there seems to be no sense of residual queasiness like there tends to be when I'm actually sick. Ultimately whether or not you think you can handle such a long experience will be completely up to you. Bottom line is that you'll survive whether or not you can handle yourself, and you might just find that not being able to handle yourself may provide more valuable lessons than a not-so-rocky trip. My semi-negative experience lead me to reprioritize my life, and you just gotta remember you'll make it out alive.

Thanks for the responses it sounds like purge is not near as hardcore as I imagined. Definately going to have to try it at least once. I'm also going to have to read up on changa, I'm fairly ignorant on anything that's not vaped dmt.

It's good that you're doing your research. Despite the fact that "seeing is believing" and no words can substitute the real experience, the more you know, the less curve balls can be thrown your way. The first time I consumed DMT, I smoked it, and within the first twenty seconds, I had that classic case of "I can't breathe," but luckily since I had seen that this had happened to so many others, particularly remembering it happened in Strassman's clinical trials, I released my fear that anything bad could happen, it quickly passed, and I moved on to the most euphoric moments of my life to date. Had I not done my research, and panicked, who knows how the rest of the experience may have pursued.
