Basic reagent for STB - is this OK??(in UK)

Migrated topic.

OK, so I have one of my reagents for the STB - Bartoline Premium Low Odour Paraffin/Naptha - which I have been recommended by various people, so I'm happy about this.

BUT I want to know if this other product available won't add unwanted byproducts, as I don't remember MUCH about chemistry from school, but am very confident with the process for this extraction (using previously mentioned ratios, teks etc).

- the product is "Heavy Duty Drain Opener", made in the US.

It's contents are almost completely Sodium Hydroxide (AKA Lye as well all know), but it also contains Potassium Hydroxide.

Would this K-OH fuck up my extraction?? I can't find anything else for the extraction and want to do it tomorrow as my MHRB comes next day delivery.

Help me guys!! ANd if you're in the UK PM me with another reagent that I can buy from any wellknown hardware store that might be in the certain major city I'm living in right now...Thanks.

I think a mix of KOH and NaOH would be fine, as long as it's granulated and there aren't any other impurities.

With bartoline low odour whatyacallit, I find it pulls the spice very nicely and it can freeze precip pretty good too. It's just an absolute bastard to evaporate. I used it once and it seemed to take an age to get the smell of it off of my spice. I ended up disolving all the spice in some alcohol and evapping it on a flat glass dish and that got rid of the smell. But I reckon if I had of left it to air like with other solvents which dry in the hour, odour free, it would have taken days.

Generally I think for convenience, folk in the UK are better off with store bought lighter fluid. Though I'm all about limonene/water/IPA/Acetone. But they generally involve maybe a slight more complication than the tek you seem to have in mind.
