Better results with higher temperatures

So I've been extracting for a minute but have been going over issues I may have been having. However, one thing I don't understand is that when I use a higher temp of heptane for the re-x, my crystals are white and seem to be better purity. While I've been trying recently in the recommended range of 40-42 C, I get a yellow mix that is crystalline and more glass like consistency without any layer of slag and no larger crystals form. Please tell me, how should I be performing this? For context I'm using Nomans STB. Thanks guys

Another point specific to this is that DMT has at leat two polymorphs, one of which is yellowish. Maybe you have established a temperature dependence, if you can reliably convert between the two. Prior knowledge on the DMT polymorphs suggested a link between choice of re-x solvent (hexane vs. acetonitrile) and the form taken but I don't know to what degree (no pun intended) the temperature treatment was controlled for.

One more thing is that the rate of cooling will impact crystal size - slower cooling will typically produce larger crystals. It is also important to avoid oversaturating the solvent at a temperature above the melting point of one of the polymorphs. This would help prevent oiling out and subsequent amorphous/undersized crystal formation. The temperature/solubility curve for DMT appears to be complicated because of this.

It's interesting that you get this with the lower temperature re-x process - maybe there's a temperature window that favours dimerization of the DMT. And you're not alone in finding this behavior confusing, so I hope this additional information helps you on the way towards a deeper understanding of this perplexing molecule!

Thanks for the reply and info. The crystal structure when I do it at those higher temps looks like the snowflake crystal I see many other ppl posting, and it's always seemed of good potency. I'll try to provide a pic. I've been seeing the temp range on here and other forums and decided to go lower thinking the spice might be getting in the slag layer. The main reason I'm focused on this now (but always focused on really) is I've decided to try the e juice method and was trying to get it as clean as possible. Is white spice important for those sort of teks? It seems to be stressed on a tek I saw on youtube.

It could be that the white form dissolves better in PG; then again, we've had a recent thread (@JM434 ) where there was an issue of numb lips and caustic taste that we're yet to get entirely to the bottom of.

I'd advise reading through the main e-juice threads to get some idea of whether that recommendation is entirely so important. You could also try comparing the ease of solubility of both forms in PG, and bear in mind that adding a bit of citric acid should take the caustic edge off freebase juice.
 
I'm reading a little into this polymorph thing too, a little perplexing. One range being between 38-40 and the other 73-74? I'd have to say that as I've been doing heptane re-x's, I was probably closer to the 73-74. Another reason I'm trying to give the lower temps a chance is because I see other posters have great success with it. I dunno, I'll check the e-juice thread, it'll be a minute before I have all my supplies so, I got some time. Thanks again.
