Brain Injury Thread

This caught my attetion after reading a thread here, it is about a man with a brain infection Lymes disease caused by ticks. I found it interesting his hallucinations ie heiroglyphics covering the walls of the hospital sound like something many of us here may beleive we also experance. We all know the brain remains a complete mystery to science and mystics. I for one try to lean to science but that is what my brain has been programed to do. Strange fasination is killing me. So drugs alter the function of the brain just like brain injuries so these topics may be interlated more closely than is generaly thought by layman like myself.
So got any good brain injury stories? (maybe that should be in reports section) Or other discussion items it would make for some good reading and reflection

I am not putting down DMT or brain injuries I just find this interesting.

I dont know if this counts as brain injury but my grandfather has Alzeimers and sometimes sees people who are not there or thinks that a person in the room is actually someone else.Wouldnt that be a hallucination?

Altered states of conciousness can be caused by many things.Usually involving some kind of extreme physical or mental exertion, or stress.Whether it be from head trauma or drugs,fasting,meditation,rythmic dancing/drumming,sweat lodge,yoga,controlled breathing,pain,illness.It can also be induced by high electro-magnetic fields or sensory deprevation.And im sure there are a lot more.

It very interesting how similar these altered states can be to one another and at the same time have there own unique flavors.Id like to hear stories of any kind of ASC.
 
I suffered a brain injury almost a year ago; it took the better part of that year to get back to 'normal'.
I suffered a contusion on my frontal lobe from a car wreck. There were times shortly after the wreck when I would get really dizzy and have lots of visuals (patterning mostly OEV and CEV), then, if I didn't sit down, I would pass out. This was very frightening but those spells gradually became less frequent and I have made a full recovery.
 
Here's a video that many consider a classic as far as combining science, brain injury, and "psychedelic-like" experiences. But I think it's inaccurate to confound psychedelic use with brain injury; the effects are similar because psychedelics heavily ENHANCE function in certain areas/systems--which ends up being temporarily experientially equivalent to DAMAGED function in the NON-enhanced areas. It amounts to the relative weight of activity. A reasonable hypothesis, anyway; and it certainly correlates with the observation that users of psychedelics don't seem to suffer permanent harm at all.
 
Interesting stuff...this isn't entirely relevant, being an eye problem (macular degeneration), as oppose to a brain injury, but it seems like the brain will produce visions of its own if deprived of 'real' visual input...your brain hungers for sensory data, and without it will make stuff up...

I suffered a concusion in a bicycle wreck when I was young, about 12. After I had been brought home by my parents, my vision suddenly changed and everything became colorful and fractalized and then it eventually faded out.
 
A time I were younger, I was sledding fast on a Snowracer in a beautiful forest. As I gained more and more speed, I suddenly crashed in a huge stone. I literally flew at least 10 meters and crashed my head in another stone. At impact, I saw a huge lightning across my vision - starting from where the stone hit at the top of my head. I also heard the lightning as a whoos-sound, it smelled burnt and tasted a metallic taste. I also felt the lightning as an electric force going through my whole body. In other words, I felt the impact on all five senses. This only lasted two or three seconds, then I passed out.

I suddenly woke up with a wonderful, free, loving feeling. I didn't feel hurt at all, actually I felt better than ever. With the knowledge I now have, I can say this feeling was very similar to the euphoria you get from Tryptamines.

More interesting however, was all the visuals - my entire sight was covered with lovely geometrical patterns in vivid colors. The visuals was not covering the surface of my surroundings as it normally is with Tryptamines, it formed a field maybe one or two meters in front of me. I tried to walk to the field of geometrical hallucinations, but as I did everything faded away. Even my euphoria, my head did now hurt as hell.

I was very surprised the first time I tried Psilocybe mushrooms, as the feeling was all too familiar. I like to consider this crash my first experience on "the other side". :)
