Cactus ID Thread

Migrated topic.
1: pliocereus of some sort
2: pliocereus of some sort
3: myrtillocactus geometrizans
4: myrtillocactus geometrizans
5: myrtillocactus of some sort
6: stetsonia coryne

First instinct is PC pachanoi, but I'm not sure the edges have the serrated shape enough to be PC pach. Could be the age if they're small.

I found them the other day in the assorted succulent section of a little community nursery in my city. I have various trich's growing from seed but I'm always on the lookout for larger specimens that sometimes seem to sneak into the garden centers.

I agree with WAP for the most part. First plant is a Pilosocereus most likely. Second and third plants are Myrtillocactus geometrizans. Fourth is most likely a stenocereus (maybe dumortierii or griseus). Not sure about the fifth one. Looks a bit off to be a trich, maybe stetsonia but IDK. The last one posted is PC pachanoi I think.

would appreciate some suggestions on this ID

this cactus is very skinny and about 21" tall.

soon or later i would like to test this cactus out and see if it's active but im not sure how much to cut and if it would kill the cactus. i have no experience with cactus tea. i want to keep this alive and growing. any way to make it start producing limbs?

thanks

McCoyBoy -

That is a non PC san pedro cactus. It's a pretty handsome one too.

You could cut enough off of that plant to cook and make a test dose, but the remaining stump would be pretty stunted. If you give good conditions to a 21 inch healthy plant like that it will really take off, growing over a foot a year and faster as it gets bigger. Really it's up to you and your priorities.

thanks ouro, much appreciated.

the main goal is the keep it alive and healthy and growing. ill have to pass on the test dose for now.

Hello,

I stumbled upon this offer at a local auction,
claiming its San Pedro trichocereus pachanoi,
this is the only picture represented and i decided to ask for id help here, rather than
asking the seller themselves.

It's described as a fast-growing species, what's on the picture is approximately 20 cm.

Main concern to direct my question here is that it's stated it's a fast grower, and seeing those long spines, it makes me think it might be Predominant Cultivar.

Correct me if i'm wrong, but PC has significantly less mescaline content?

Well, it definitely isn't PC.

Most pachanoi have shorter spines than that cactus, but I think there are long spine pachs out there.

If I had to guess without having been told it was pach, I'd have said peruvianus or a hybrid, but hopefully someone else can say for sure.

i have run into a big problem! my cactus is darker at the bottom and when i check firmness it leaves slightly darker spots. i dont water it often at all, but it has been raining more than usual. what to do?

looks fine
put it somewhere dry and leave it be

you might try a soil with less organic matter , either alot of perlite, or pumice/turface
as Ouro said, handsome cactus :)

Got a couple of new cacti last week. Bought via a dutch online marketplace.

The huge cutting is told to come from Peru.
The rooted is sold as pachanoi as well. They both have the V dents, the rooted being darker than the cuttings.

What do you guys think, are these worth the effort of preparing?
