Cactus ID Thread

Migrated topic.
I would stick it in a pot and grow it. Then you can have an unending supply :).

Identifying Trichocereus Pachanoi is somewhat of a debate so you'll probably get a lot of different answers. I'm not sure about that first cactus because of the rib structure. But the bottom pics definitely look like 100% Pedro.

That's all I can say. You'll be able to tell more when it grows.

The second is definitely real-deal pachanoi. I think the first is too, though it's interesting looking. Anyway, I'd definitely save and root the top 6+ inches of the cutting, and leave 6+ inches of the rooted plant as a stump (it'll pup from the base eventually). Then sample each one separately in approximately the same amounts (weigh it out of you can). That way you'll know if one is more worthy of attention than the other.

I'd also start lower than the dosages you normally see suggested for shitty common pachanoi (1-2 feet). If it's a strong real pachanoi, even 1 foot could potentially be more than you bargained for.

Let us know how it goes.

I did extract both the large cuttings. In total 3200 grams of flesh was processed with 3 * 45 minutes pressure cooker boils.
The last boil gave almost clear water.
I basified the reduced 500 ml tea with NaOH and extracted the 3 boils seperately.
The result was disappointing. I have to scrape and weigh it but I think it contains no more than 100 - 150 mg alkaloids for 3200 grams fresh.
This time I dried the d-limonene before salting it based on a tip I got on another board. The solvent actually contains quite some water (and therefor possibly NaOH as well) as quite some magnesium sulfate is needed to fully dry it. I did this to avoid NaCl contamination. I now see how you can end up with some NaCl using d-limonene and HCl.
I also now observed that D-limonene only gets cloudy when you use it for a second pull. I think this has to do with the initial salting. I did not dried the solvent after salting so I think that this cloudiness is caused by left over HCl in the solvent which directly reacts with the NaOH mix and slowly generates NaCl causing the very fine particle cloudiness.

Funny thing there was kind of a flame war between the vendor and another vendor stating he was selling ' false' san pedro. I thought the other guy was spreading some false PR but it seems he is right after all :) .

I will do the rooted ones this weekend. Hopefully better luck with those. Also I'm going to visit a nursery today to look for other varieties, because at the moment I only have 2 proper active strains and they are already harvested so at least 2 years before I can harvest them again. That's too long as mescaline is my favorite mind altering substance by far.
I did order dried cactus two times from Peru as an alternative, but I have the idea that customs are more tight about this the past couple of years.

The rooted ones also are not that potent. I extracted 2 kg fresh. First pull, two saltings: 50 mg uncleaned.

The first pull was done with 2 hours magnetic stirring.

What surprises me is that also not that much gunk is pulled and actually almost nothing is pulled at all. I checked the pH of the mix and thats as far as the strip can go colorwise. I'll keep the basified cactus mix this time because it might be possible that the d-limonene that was redistilled, doesn't absorb the freebase mesc anymore/not that well,

Are there cacti that simple don't yield anything with a A/B, even no orange gunk oil?

The imported chips from peru always gave me 1% at least.

I left the d-limonene layer sit on the basified cactus tea for another week or so. In near freezing temperatures. So the freebase should have come up as it's insoluble in near freezing water. Still only 16 mg from this pull.

Another thing to note is that the d-limo almost didn't pick up color while the 69Ron tek the d-limo got a golden like color.

I wonder if I should repeat with DCM or Xylene. The d-limonene still has perfect solvent properties I think, because the styrofoam package of the glass syringe melted away due to some d-limonene residue.

It's so hard to believe (/accept :) ) only 100 mg in total came of 5 kg fresh cacti. I would have expected to pull at least some orange gunk wax in the last pull.

This summer I was going home after being at a friend's place, and in the way home I found some cacti which had been cutted almost at the roots, and left at the street near a bin. They looked similar to some trichocerus I had seen before, and althought I wasn't sure, I brought them home.

I cutted them into 50cm pieces, in order to use them, but as I was not sure of what they were, I thought it was better not to do it. Then, I spent few months far from home, and when I returned, lots of branches had grown in the already cutted cacti. I waited for them to grow a little, cutted them, and now they are in pots, to see if they root. I kept the original cuttings, hoping to identify them and use them if they are worth it. thought about doing an extraction to see what came up, but if they are not active, it will be an unnecesary mess. Sho here I attach some pics, to see if you can help me to know what are they... Think when watching them that I cutted it almost half a year ago, and they had been like four months under the sun, the rain... Could definetly have been more careful...

Just picked up this little guy from the local plant shop. He didn't have a label but he looked like he might possibly be a mescaline containing cactus. I'm just not sure, the skin looks a little too blue.. Any input is greatly appreciated :)

I just received these little cacti buddies and put them in new homes 3 days ago. I can't wait to see them grow! :d They were sold as pachanoi's but I'm no expert so any input would be greatly appreciated.

Greetings everybody !!!
Hope you are doing well, in harmony and love

Just recently i bought this fellow here, and was wondering if someone could help me with his name;)

While passing near local flower shop he got my attention. Im not gonna lie, i bought him in hope that it could be one of the alkaloid active trichocereus specimens. But even if no, still a very nice cactus for my home collection!:)

Enjoy the pics buds

Best regards
